Sting Notes:
Sarnia Honours Steven Stamkos

It was an exciting evening before a sellout crowd as Sarnia celebrated and honoured 2008 IIHF World U10 Gold Medal winner Steven Stamkos. Steven was joined on the red carpet by his Family and Land Parents, City Representative Jim Foubister, Coach Dave MacQueen and  General Manager Alan Millar where he was presented with several gifts to honour his achievements at the 2007-2008 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships.  Steven was one of the top leaders in points for Team Canada with 1 goal and 5 assists.  As part of the festivities a banner was unveiled with Stamkos name and Team Canada number that will hang along with other Sarnia Sting alumni who participated in World Championships before him.  To conclude the ceremony Steven had a few words to say to thank his family, fans and everyone involved surrounding his experience.

Also playing in this game and special mention to Plymouth Whaler Goalie Jeremy Smith who played for Team USA at the World Championships.  Smith was ranked 7th and played in 6 games allowing 12 goals, 101 saves, 2.40 GAA.

The first goal of the night was scored shorthanded by none other than
Steve Stamkos!
