Stamkos Named Captain For Under 18

Canadian Teammates Get Set For World
Championships

Sarnia, ON –
Sarnia Sting forward
Steven Stamkos has been
named Captain of the
Canadian Men’s Under 18
team in a release today
by Hockey Canada as the
22-man roster was
announced in Calgary.
Stamkos is the first
Sting player to ever be
named the Captain of any
National team.
The Unionville, Ontario
native is the top ranked
player for the 2008 NHL
Entry Draft by several
scouting organizations.
Canada’s National Men’s
Summer Under-18 team
will participate in the
Ivan Hlinka Memorial
Tournament (formerly the
Under-18 World
Championships) in
Slovakia and the Czech
Republic from August 14
– 18. |
Canada has claimed gold for three
straight years including last season
with a team featuring Sting
defenseman Mark Katic and Head
Trainer Glen Kinney.
The team will depart for Slovakia on
Thursday and will play its first
exhibition game on Sunday vs. Team
Slovakia.
