Sarnia Sting vs London Knights
Pre-Season

The Sting hosted the London Knights in the pre-season exhibition before a crowd of approximately 1,500 fans.  This was the second meeting of the two teams where in the first game in London the Knights took the  win with a final score of 8 - 3.


 Going the distance in net for the Sting was Tomi Karhunen and for the Knights, Stephen Heming.
 

In the first period the Knights scored first at 2:42 into the period on a goal off the stick of Greg Zavitz assisted by Cody Smith and Brad Fleishman.  Sarnia came back at 11:02 when Steven Stamkos barreled
his way through drew a penalty and scored with the assists going to Matt Smyth and Mark Katic.  Sarnia took the lead at 18:20 again on the powerplay when Chris Mifflen fired one in from the point through traffic to score.  Assisting on Mifflen's goal was Jared Gomes.  The period would end with the Sting leading 2 - 1.


London took a total of 8 minutes in penalties in the first period with the Sting taking 10 with the last penalty carrying forward to the second period.  Shots on goal in the first period Sarnia 11 - London 9.

Action continued in the second period and at 13:01 the play was stopped as London took a hooking penalty at 13:01.  As the two sides were skating to the bench for line changes several fight broke out in front of the Sting Bench drawing several Fighting and Game Misconduct Penalties.  The first pairing was between Steven Stamkos and Heikki Hyvonen when the linesman pulled Stamkos off and Devin DiDiomete of the Sting jumped in giving him a 3rd man in penalty.  Mark Katic paired off with Jordan Shine and Ryan Wilson was paired up with Cody Smith who went down and had to be helped off due to receiving an injury to his leg. Despite the injury Smith received the fighting penalty in that incident Wilson was let off.
The fourth pairing was between Harrison Reed of Sarnia and Brad Fleishman, both players were not penalized.
 

 


Play resumed once the ice was cleared and the penalties sorted out and the period ended with no scoring with Sarnia still in lead by 2 -1. Shots on goal in the second period: Sarnia12, London 8.
 

In the third Sarnia would score their 3rd powerplay goal when Jordan Hill took the pass from Justin DiBenedetto at the point and slid it over to Ryan Wilson who took a slap shot and fired it into the opening.  Time of the goal was at 7:22.

With Sarnia leading 3 - 1 the Knights came back and scored 2 minutes later to narrow the Sting lead.  Patrick Marron score assisted by Philip McRae and Akim Aliu.  With less than 2 minutes to play in the game Marron was left uncovered in front of the Sting net and took the pass from behind and dumped it in to tie the game. 


The game would end with both sides even with 3 each.  Both sides took a total of 8 minutes in penalties in the final period.  Shots on goal - Sarnia 9, London 6.  In total Sarnia outshot the Knights 32 - 23.
 

The three star selection it was Ryan Wilson #3, Patrick Maroon #2 and the first star went to Steven Stamkos.

 

The Sting continue their pre-season with games on Friday September 7 vs Plymouth game time 7:30 and Friday September 14th - game time 7:30.
