Upcoming Events!

The Sarnia Sting are pleased to announce that their game November 8th versus the Kitchener Rangers will be played in tribute to the service provided by military personnel around the world.

Once again the Sting will wear a special jersey in honour to both the great Sarnia Legionnaires teams as well as a tribute to the wonderful work done by the Royal Canadian Legion for all of our veterans. Following the game, the jerseys will be once again auctioned in support of the local Sarnia Legion as they continue to work to assist veterans of past conflict.  The jersey auction will be conducted on the Sarnia Sting website (www.sarniasting.com).  Also the Kitchener Rangers will be wearing commemorative jerseys in tribute to the military personnel around the world.

This year the Sting have aligned with the groups Hero To Hero.US (Team Canada) and The Lambton County Military Family Support Group

THE LAMBTON COUNTY MILITARY FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP ARE ASKING ALL ATTENDEES OF THE SARNIA STING GAME ON NOVEMBER 8th TO WEAR RED IN SUPPORT OF THE SACRIFICES AND EFFORTS OF CANADIAN TROOPS AROUND THE WORLD.

“The ‘Red Friday” campaign has been a round for some time, but even though this is a Saturday game we are hopeful that Sarnia, and even Kitchener fans, will show support for our men and women overseas and at home.  This gesture of wearing red on November 8th will be very meaningful to the families also,” says Linda Smith, Co-Founder of the Lambton County Military Family Support Group.

There will be a pre game ceremony to pay tribute to both the veterans and current serving members of the military.  Six distinct areas of involvement for Canadian Troops will be represented: Afghanistan, Sudan, Bosnia, Korea, World War II and even World War I. Jack Babcock, the only surviving veteran of World War I will send a special message via video during the pre-game ceremony.

The pre-game ceremony will also feature Canadian country recording artist Julian Austin performing “Red and White” his passionate tribute to all soldiers past and present.

Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to sign a banner that will be sent to troops through the Hero 2 Hero program. Hero 2 Hero sends t-shirts from firefighters, police, paramedic and other protective services in the community to soldiers overseas. The t-shirts and the support they represent is strongly and gratefully received by the Canadian Forces abroad.

The Sting strongly encourage all fans attending the game to wear red as a sign of their appreciation for Canadians serving in peace keeping operations.  A photo of the “sea of red at the SSEC” will be taken and sent to the troops.

Blackburn Radio will also be in attendance collecting Christmas Cards for troops overseas – listen to the Fox FM, CHOK or K106.3 for more information on what to bring to the SSEC on November 8th.

Following the game there will be a free skate with the Sting open to all attending the game.

Finally members of the Sarnia Legionnaires Junior B team will be on hand at the game handing out poppies to everyone attending the game.  Donations to the Royal Canadian Legion will be accepted by the Legionnaire players as they hand out the poppies.

As a part of the tribute to the Sarnia Legionnaire teams of the past the Sting offer an open invitation to any former Legionnaire player to attend the game for free.  Former players are asked to contact the Sting Box Office (541-1717) with the year(s) they played for the Legionnaires by Thursday November 6th at 5:00 pm to receive their free ticket.
