Rapids Swimmers Begin Season in Aylmer
The St. Clair Erie Aquatic League
(SEAL) held its first swim meet of the season in
Aylmer on October 24, with 27 swimmers from the
Sarnia Y Rapids Swim Team.
Among the girls, 8 swam in the 8-
to 9-year-old category. Sam Bedard earned three 2nd
place finishes and one 4th. Ciara Brown
placed 6th in two races. Erin Lacey
finished 5th in two of her events, while
Ella Roland came 4th, 5th, and
6th in one race each. Nadine Osmon placed
1st in the 50 yard freestyle and 4th
in one other event. Nes Tulang also swam a strong
meet. It was the debut meet for Ally Core and Emma
Devine.
In the 10- and 11-year-old girls,
it was the first competition for Anna Derech, Jena
Devine, Courtney Murray, Hayley Robertson, and
Trista Walsh. Hannah Lacey finished in the top 10 in
all her events, and earned 6th place in
the backstroke. Samantha Lefebvre improved her
times in three events.
Latashia Dutcher, Janelle Joosten
, Cassandra Preece, and Sophie Stasyna competed in
the 12- and 13-year-old group. Latashia had three
Top 10 finishes, including one 5th and
one 6th place. Sophie took almost 13
seconds off her time for the 200 yard freestyle.
Three of the four
8-and-9-year-old boys are new to the team this year.
Thomas Cardinal finished in the top 10 in all his
events, including a 4th place in the
breaststroke. Mavi Deol finished in the top 10 in
two of his events. Lucas Piazza improved his time
over last season in all of his events. Kaiden Rawson
earned two 3rd place finishes, and one 4th
place.
Hunter Small and Luke Young were
among the 10- and 11-year-old boys. Hunter placed 4th,
5th (twice) and 6th in his
events, while Luke topped all swimmers in his
category in the 100 yard freestyle, and placed 2nd
in the breaststroke and 3rd in his other
two events.
Among 12- and 13-year-old boys,
Dariel Gomez had one 5th place and two 6th
place finishes. Liam Young added two 2nd
places finishes to his 1st in the 100
freestyle.
