The Sarnia Ultimate Frisbee League had its final playoff tournament this past Saturday August 18th.  The tournament had games time capped at one hour and fifteen minutes or first to 13 points.  Exception to the championship game, which was a game to 15 points with no time cap.

The morning started off with four quarterfinal matches involving the top eight teams from the regular season.  The number one team of the regular season Port Huron Ultimate Club had an easy game against the eighth seeded Pylons, winning 13-1.

The second seeded Cookie Monsters took on the seventh seeded Ultimate Suspects, a rematch of last year’s championship match.  Last year it was the Suspects coming out on top, the Suspects also won their only game against the Cookie Monsters in the preseason this year.

The Cookie Monsters were able to reverse their fortune taking
 this quarterfinal match 13-6.

The third seeded Megalomaniacs were in tough against Hungate’s Mom, who they had lost 17-16 to in the regular season.  The Megalomaniacs were able to pull away in the second half to a comfortable 13-6 win.  The 4th-5th match involved Red Army and Totally Unfit.  Totally Unfit up 11-9, lost the final four points of the match in their 13-11 heart breaker loss.

All top seeds therefore advanced to the semifinals.

The Port Huron Ultimate Club continued their undefeated run against Red Army in the first semifinal match.  Port Huron were able to take a comfortable 13-7 win against the tournament’s fourth seeded team.  In a much closer semifinal between the Cookie Monsters and the Megalomaniacs, the Megalomaniacs were able to jump out with the first two points of the game. The Cookie Monsters stormed back to close out the half with a 7-3 lead.  The Megalomaniacs reversed momentum to start the second half, and tied the match up at 10-10.  On time cap the Megalomaniacs’ Cara Paterson caught the game winner to advance to the final in dramatic fashion.

The championship match was a tight one throughout.  Port Huron began to show signs of exhaustion for the first time this season when the game was tied at 11-11.  The Megalomaniacs on the other hand were able to maintain their energy on their way to winning their first Championship title, score 15-11.  In the bronze medal match, the Cookie Monsters took third place honours.
