Cookie Monsters
Victorious in Battle for Second Place
The
battle of 2nd place between the Megalomaniacs
(4-1) and the Cookie Monsters (4-1) was a hard fought
match. The first half saw the two teams exchange points
until it was 8-7 in favour of the Megalomaniacs. The
Cookie Monsters were able to kick up their defensive
coverage in the second half to a stifling level. The
Cookie Monsters allowed only 2 further points in a
convincing 15-10 win.
Hungate’s
Mom (2-3) played Spread Condor (0-6) in a serious and
intense match. Spread Condor was able to keep up with
Hungate’s Mom until half time trailing 8-7. Although
Spread Condor continues to improve throughout the season
they could not grab their first win falling 15-11.
Hungate’s Mom’s Adam Wettges is given credit with
chasing a stray duck off the field nearing the end of
the game.
A team on
the rise Red Army (3-2) played their best match of the
season against the Ultimate Suspects (2-3). Usually
playing zone on defence, Red Army found playing man on
man defence gave them a huge boost for this match. The
Ultimate Suspects did put up a fight coming back from a
6-point deficit to trail 11-9, but Red Army was too much
in the end winning 15-11.
The Port
Huron Ultimate Club’s (5-0) two weeks of byes did not
seem to slow them down in a dominate 15-4 victory
over the Pylons (1-5). Chris Oscher played particularly
well on defence for the winning side. On offence Port
Huron made very few unforced turnovers making it
difficult for the Pylons to play any effective defence.
For the Pylons it was Scott Hall who played a strong
game as handler on offence.
With two
games remaining in the season, Port Huron Ultimate Club
attempts to make Sarnia Ultimate league history by
completing an undefeated season. This has not been
accomplished in the 6-year history of the league. Their
remaining games are against the Megalomaniacs and Red
Army; both teams are currently tied for 3rd
overall. |
