Irish are 3-0!
The Fighting Irish Sr. Girls team coached by Pat Lepore and
Rahat Altaf posted wins in their first three Lambton County
games in the past two weeks defeating SCITS, LCCVI and St.
Chris.
The Irish got
off to a slow start against the SCITS Blue Bombers but
pulled away to post a 28-8 lead by the half and finishing up
with a 49-20 margin. Leading the Irish offence were Maggie
Mullen with 17 and Whitney Ryan with 12. Chelsea Wagner and
Conchita each hit for 5. Mullen was also hot on the boards
pulling down 7 followed closely by Devin Galvin with 6.
It was pretty
much the same story the following week when the Irish
defeated LCCVI by a decisive 51-19 score. Mullen and Ryan
led the scoring with 14 and 9 respectively followed by
Taylor Hennessey with 7. Galvin led the defence with 8
rebounds and 5 steals.
Despite a
very short bench due to injuries, the St. Chris Cyclones
gave the Irish all they could handle on Sept. 20 on their
home court. The Irish held a 2 point lead at the end of the
first quarter but that flipped to the Cyclones favour 17-15
by the half. It was still a 2 point game at the end of
three, but the Irish went on a 15-5 run in the fourth to
nail down the win 37-29. Conchita Humphries had the hot
hand for the Irish posting 13 points including a 3-pointer
right at the buzzer. Ryan and Galvin added 6 each. Galvin
and Humphries also gave strong defensive performances
pulling down 11 and 8 rebounds respectively.
The Irish are
idle this Tuesday but play host to the Northern Vikings on
Thursday, September 27 at 5:30 PM. |
