The Northern Jr. Vikings football team continued their winning
ways this week with a 64-9 win over a hard-working St. Clair
team.
The Colts opened the game with a long drive and a field goal
half way through the first quarter. NCIVS opened its
scoring moments later when Jon Vanderveen caught a Mark Johnson
pass and ran 40 yards into the endzone. Brent Sauve was good
with the extra point. With a minute remaining in the 1st
quarter, the Vikings scored again on a 30 yard pass reception
and run by Tyler Withers. Sauve was good again with the extra
point. The 1st quarter ended with a touchback which put the
score at 15-3.
The Vikings struck early in the 2nd quarter when Brent Sauve
scored on a 50 yard run and added the extra point.
St. Clair responded with some big runs of their own, capping
their drive off with a touchdown. However, they were unable to
convert the two point attempt. Just before the end of the half,
the Vikings' Stephane Jean scored a major on a 10 yard run.
Sauve added the extra point.
The second half saw touchdowns for the Vikings by Stephane Jean
and Brent Sauve, and TJ Mara added three more touchdowns for the
Vikings. Brent Sauve was good on all extra point attempts. Cole
Boersma and Devonte Dalton came in off the bench and made some
key defensive plays for the Vikings in the second half.
The final score was Vikings 64, Colts 9.
The Vikings are in action again on Friday, October 12th at 3:30
at SCITS.
