The Northern
Jr. Boys' Football team got their season off to an
impressive start,
with a 45-0 win over St. Pat's on Irish home turf.
After some back and forth in
St. Pat's end of the field, Stephane Jean opened things up
in the first quarter with a 15 yard touchdown run. He also
kicked the extra point. Early in the second quarter Jean was
at it again, this time running the ball into the endzone
from 7 yards out, and again adding the extra point. With
3:00 minutes remaining in the first half, Viking's
quarterback Mark Johnson connected with Ben Withers on a 20
yard td pass. Before the end of the half, Withers
added another touchdown on a 20 yard run. The Vikings
led 26- 0 at the half.
The lone score in the 3rd
quarter came from Jon Vanderveen, when he got hold of a punt
at the Irish 40-yard line and ran the ball in for a
touchdown. Ben Withers added two more touchdowns in
the 4th quarter, the first on a 35 yard run, and the second
from 25 yards out. Mark Johnson kicked an extra point to
make the final score Vikings 45, Irish 0.
Special mention goes to
Andrew Harpell who made some key plays at the corner
position,
and Paul Payne who was extremely effective at tackle and
linebacker.
The Vikings are in action again
on Thursday, September 27th, at home against Petrolia.
