Semi Finals
On Tuesday, March
18th, the Eagles travelled to
Chatham to face the John MacGregor
Panthers in the SWOSSAA (South
Western Ontario Secondary Schools
Athletic Associations) semi-final
matchup for A/AA schools.
(A/AA is a
championship for schools with 900
students or less.) John MacGregor
scored with 4:47 left in the first
on a powerplay. Both teams played
aggressively, but excellent
goaltending at both ends of the rink
meant there were no goals scored in
the second. The Eagles tied up the
game with 4:49 left in the third on
a great faceoff by Courtney Smith
that saw the puck move to Kelli
Vandenboer who wasted no time in
burying the puck high behind the
Chatham goalie. Not to be outdone,
the Grade nine line went out on the
next shift and Shelbi Parizeau
scored on a pass from Kelsey
Campbell with 3:37 to go. The Eagles
tried to make the game even more
exciting by taking two penalties
with a little over 2 and a half
minutes to go. The Panthers pulled
their goalie and the Eagles were
faced with 2 minutes of 6 on 3
hockey. Patience, control and
amazing goaltending by Chelsea
Fraser led to the Eagles victory.

Finals
On Thursday,
March 20th the Eagles headed to
Belle River to take on the L'Essor
Aigles from Tecumseh. After the
excitement of Tuesday's matchup, the
game was rather anti-climatic with
the Eagles winning 7-0 to qualify
for the OFSAA (Ontario Federation of
Schools Athletic
Association)
championship being held in Pembroke
on April 2 - 4th.
Scoring for the
Eagles were Shelbi Parizeau with 2
goals and 1 assist, Kelsey Campbell
and Grace Mellon with 1 goal and 1
assist each, Justine Goulet,
Brittany Anderson and Kelli
Vandenboer with a goal each.
Assists went to
Taylor Thompson with three, Kerri
Dirven and Marcie Soetemans with one
each. Chelsea Fraser posted the
shutout.
This is the first
SWOSSAA championship for the Girls
Hockey team from North Lambton and
their first trip to an official
OFSAA championship as the SWOSSAA
rep. Girls Hockey has had a full
SWOSSAA championship for just two
years although hockey has been a
league sport in Lambton County for
the past 5 years. The Eagles also
captured second place in the league
after losing 3-1 against the LCCVI
Lancers. This is the highest finish
the team has had in LSSAA league.
The team has represented Lambton
county in the past at OFSAA Hockey
Festivals.
