NCIVS 32 -
LCCVI 12
The Northern Jr. Vikings
football team put a damper on the Petrolia
Lancers homecoming celebrations with a 32-12
win.
The Vikings struck first
early in the opening quarter when, after a
couple of big runs, Jon Vanderveen caught a 15
yard pass and ran the ball into the endzone for
a touchdown. Tyler Annett converted the extra
point.
At the 8:00 minute mark of
the 2nd quarter, the Vikings' Maitland Long
caught a pass from Carter Winberg and scampered
into the endzone for a touchdown. Annett was
good with the extra point. Near the end of the
half, a Vikings' field goal attempt went wide,
but the Vikings were able to tackle the Lancer
ball carrier in the Petrolia endzone, leading to
a point.
15-0 at the half.
The Vikings added some
more points in the 3rd. First, at 7:03, Tyler
Annett booted a 25 yard field goal. Then, with
2:38 to go in the quarter, the Vikings had the
ball deep in Lancer territory when Jon
Vanderveen took a handoff and pushed his way
into the endzone. Annett kicked the extra point,
to make the score Vikings 25, Lancers 0. Credit
to the Lancers though, as they never showed
signs of giving up. On the last play of the 3rd
quarter, Petrolia completed a pass for a
touchdown. The 2 point conversion attempt was no
good.
In the fourth quarter the
Vikings and the Lancers traded touchdowns.
First, the Vikings' Jon Vanderveen caught
another Tyler Windberg pass for a touchdown.
Annett converted the extra point. The Lancers
struck last with a long run into the endzone.
Again, their 2 pt. conversion attempt was
unsuccessful and the Vikings went on to win
32-12.
Special mention to the
Vikings' Jacob Packer who made an impressive
showing on both sides of the ball, and to
Brandon Burns who was strong on the offensive
line.
The Vikings see action
again at their homecoming game on Friday,
October 17th against SCITS, at 3:30pm.
