The Vikings scored early
and often on their way to a 57-18 win over a
SCITS team that never gave up.
The Vikings' Carter
Winberg completed several long passes in the
first half, resulting in touchdowns by Tyler
Annett, Jake Williams, and two scores by
Maitland Long. Cole Boersma scored a major on a
35 yard pitch-run, and added 6 more points on a
shorter run at the end of the half. Annett made
good on all extra point attempts in the first
half.
SCITS was able to break
open a couple of long plays before the end of
the first half, which led to two majors of their
own. They were unable to convert either TD.
The Vikings led 42-12 at
the half.
The Vikings added 15 more
points in the second half. At the start of the
3rd quarter, Cole Boersma again broke open a big
play on his way to a 75-yard run into the
endzone. A fumbled snap on the extra point
attempt led to a 2 point conversion by Carter
Winberg. The Bluebombers kept at it though, and
scored a major on a long pass and run. Their 2
pt. conversion attempt was unsuccessful. The
Vikings finished their scoring when Jacob Packer
took the ball on a 70 yard run for a touchdown.
Tyler Withers converted the extra point, to
finish the game Vikings 57, Bluebomers 18.
On defense, Zach Ghast
came up big with a blocked punt, and Brent
Elviage covered the flats like a seasoned
veteran. Maitland Long complimented his
offensive game with a solid turn at the outside
linebacker spot.
The Jr. Vikings are in the
LSSAA finals, Saturday, November 1st at 4pm at
Norm Perry Park.
