The St.
Clair Colts and Murrayfield Wanderers
U18 Women’s side in Edinburgh
Twenty-Two members
of the St. Clair girls rugby team traveled to Scotland from April
10-20 this year. The girls were involved in a rugby tour that
included stays in Edinburgh, Stirling and Glasgow.
The first weekend or the tour was in Edinburgh where the girls
played against the Murrayfield Wanderers U18 girls side as the
curtain raiser to the finals of the Capitals Cup international U18
boys tournament.
The Wanderers were the 2008 county champions and were preparing for
this years semi-final game to be held the following week. The St.
Clair squad was well prepared for their match and in front of
several hundred spectators, the girls outplayed the host side coming
out with a 39 to 27 win.
The Scottish side was overwhelmed with the physical play by the
Colts and were unable to match the backline pressure as well as the
dominance show by the forwards.
The Colts continued on to Stirling where they played against the
Central Crusaders in the shadow of the historic William Wallace
monument. The girls again put on an excellent display of skill and
easily won their match 56 to 10. Next it was on to Glasgow to
finish off the tour. Unfortunately, their game reputation preceding
them, the local side felt they would be no match for the Canadian
girls and conceded the match.
The Colts returned home on the 20th and are preparing for
another successful season this year. |
