The Vikings secured a spot in
the LSSAA finals today, with a 40-0 win over a
hard-fighting Petrolia Lancers squad.
After some tough back and
forth, the Vikings opened the scoring in the 1st
quarter when Jacob Packer took a handoff and ran
for fifty yards into the endzone. Paul Kaija
kicked the extra point.
At the 2:45 mark of the
2nd quarter, an alert Vikings defense secured a
safety in the Lancers endzone for 2 points.
The Vikings ended the half
with a Carter Winberg pass to Eliot Handy, who
scampered into the endzone from 20 yards out.
Kaija was good with the extra point and the
Vikings led 16-0 at the half.
The only score in the 3rd
quarter came when Curtis Robichaud took the ball
on a 20 yard run for a touchdown. Kaija added
the extra point.
Robichaud added two more
majors in the 4th quarter, and Kaija's extra
points and a field goal by Kyle Ross brought the
game to an end with the Vikings on top, 40-0.
On the defensive side of
the ball, Brandon Burns and Jeremy Vanderveen
helped the Vikings stop the Lancers on numerous
occasions.
The Vikings are through to
the finals on Saturday, November 7th, at 1pm at
Norm Perry Park.
