LCCVI Lancer
Girls’ Hockey team brought home the Gold from the
Dan Williams Memorial Girls Hockey Classic in
Listowel. The tournament all started with a great
bonding session in room 104 and Joe’s famous chicken
fingers! A good night’s sleep and then all alarm
clocks failing to go off for a 7am loading of the
bus! Luckily the game time was later than thought
so the girls were dressed and ready to take on
Walkerton’s Sacred Heart. Jessica Weed, Jillian
Rops and Amanda Campbell started off the day’s
scoring with assists from Danielle Campbell and
Darian Limb. Amelia Maniuk had her first great game
of the day allowing only one goal that was knocked
out of her glove. Lancers won 3-1.
The
second game found LCCVI up against Guelph
Collegiate. A very strong Guelph team were a
challenge but goals from Jillian Rops, Danielle
Campbell, Jennifer Zavitz and finally Shauna
McPhail’s empty net goal put an end to their hopes.
Karly Dobbin, Darian Limb and Amanda Campbell added
assists. Amelia Maniuk played another fantastic
game allowing only two goals for a 4-2 win.
Two
wins put the girls into the championship game
against Wingham’s FE Madill. Their superstar was
shut down and frustrated by great defensive play
from Kelsey Dobbin, Amy VandenEynde, Amanda Campbell
and Stephanie Krall. The game was kept to a 0-0
score even after an extra period of overtime. The
game then went to a 3 man shootout starting with
Karly Dobbin. After a slow start trying to get a
rolling puck under control, she turned the goalie
inside out and easily put it across the line.
Amelia Maniuk took on Wingham’s superstar and had no
problem at all shutting her down. Jillian Rops put
the final touch on the game with her third goal of
the day making Wingham’s goaltender look like she
was standing still. Once again Maniuk was the wall
in net and held onto her first shut out of the day
to give the girls the Championship!
Captain Kelsey
Dobbin accepted the trophy along with assistants
Karly Dobbin,
Jillian Rops and Amy VandenEynde.
