On Wednesday,
the Northern Vikings and LCCVI
Lancers met in Petrolia to begin the
2009 - 2010 LSSAA Hockey season.
Last year in
the finals Northern took the
championship with a final score of 2
-1. In the opening game of the
new season the Vikings continue
their dominance with a 5 - 3 win.
Northern took a 2
- 0 lead in the first period with
Ryan Dayman scoring the first goal
on a powerplay assisted by Jace
Felton. The second goal was
scored shorthanded by Sam Jasmin
with Dayman assisting.
In the second
Northern scored a single to go up 3
- 0 heading into the third with
Victor Kovacs scoring assisted by
Dayman.
In the third LCCVI found the back of
the net on a goal by Joe Archer
assisted by Davis Triest and Bret
Vandenbroek. Northern answered
back less than a minute later with
Victor Kovacs scoring his second
goal from Ryan Jennings scoring.
LCCVI continued to fight back and
came back with Ryan Zavitz scoring
from Cullen Hunter and Chad
Rainsberry assisting, but Northern's
Ryan Dayman cancelled that goal
scoring his second (his 4th point of
the game) with helpers by Viktor
Kovacs and Justin Moore. In
the last minute of play Joe Archer
scored a powerplay goal for the
Lancers but time ran out giving
Northern the win.
