Bluewater Blue vs Petrolia
July 31, 2007

This week in Petrolia, the U10 Bluewater Blue Boys soccer team defeated the Petrolia Oil Barons 7-2 to clinch first place and win the regular season Championship.

Chris Docherty opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a pass from the foot of Andrew Shortt. Three minutes later, Adam Craievich drill a shot just under the cross bar after being set-up by Colin Osler and Marco DiFederico. Then Petrolia responded with a goal of their own for a 2-1 score. But Bluewater dug even deeper, in the 20th minute, Chris Docherty chipped a shot over the goalie after a feed from Adriano Fuoco. Next Marco DiFederico found the net after passes from Chris Docherty and Adam Craievich. After an impressive give ‘n go passing play from Adam Craievich, Colin Osler scored Bluewater’s fifth goal. To close out the half, in extra time Colin Osler fed Adam Craievich who pivoted behind the back to set-up his shot for Bluewater’s sixth goal. Goalie Mathew Szabo was stellar in net holding Petrolia to just one goal.

Opening the second half Chris Docherty completed his hat trick using his speed, after being fed the ball from Adriano Fuoco, he ran around the defense and chipped the ball into the net. Outstanding play by the Petrolia goalkeeper frustrated the Bluewater offense but kept Bluewater Blue off the score board for the remaining of the game. Fabulous defense lead by Jordan Walsh in the second half kept the ball in the Petrolia half of the field. Midfield support, with crisp passing and movement of the ball up the field by Colin Burchill, Mathew Szabo, and Sam Fairbairn supported the Bluewater offense. A goal off a corner kick in extra time by Petrolia ended the game at 7-2. Rookie goalie Cole Lauzon was stellar in net for the second half, stopping a point blank shot and helping the offense with booming kicks. An all around team effort, with contributions from all the players gave Bluewater the victory and delivered the league championship.

Bluewater Blue is coached by Paul Craievich and assisted by Dave Shortt, the boys have one more regular season game left; August 7th at 6:30 in Chatham at Grand Ave Park. Bluewater Blue is sponsored by Palazzi Tile and Sandrin Bros.
