The BlueWater Jr. Blaze U-11
Premier Boys Soccer team travelled the 401 to face the
Waterloo Stingers. BlueWater was looking to continue its
move up the standings with a victory in Waterloo. The
Stingers had other ideas. Waterloo struck first with a
cross in the middle of the field that the Blaze Stopper
was unable to contest and a solid header went high into
the Blaze net over Matthew Doidge the stand in keeper.
BlueWater battled back
and were rewarded when Ryan Lyle won the ball on the
wing and headmanned the ball wide to Dilly Ohuegbe.
Dilly beat the charging keeper and passed the ball over
to a streaking Nik VanBilsen to tie the game at 1.
Waterloo would not wilt
on their home field. A Stinger corner kick bounced to
the middle of the pitch and was gathered by the Waterloo
player unchallenged. The shot sailed high and Waterloo
was ahead 2-1.
The goals continued to
come easily for both teams, when Jenelle Labadie
controlled the ball in midfield and sent a through ball
to the forward Ohuegbe who sliced to the net and
deposited the goal to even the score at 2.
Waterloo then attacked
and won a corner kick. The short kick confused the Blaze
defenders and the Stinger player marched around both the
Blaze left defender and the Stopper to drift the ball
over the surprised Doidge. 3-2 Waterloo at the half.
The second half started
and Labadie again fed Ohuegbe in the middle. The
streaking forward was tackled hard in the 18 yard box
for a penalty shot. Kolton Knott took the kick but the
shot was square on the Stinger goalie who made an easy
save.
BlueWater continued to
press for the tying goal and were rewarded when Ohuegbe
crossed the ball to a hard charging Matt Cservik who
deposited the goal past the Waterloo keeper.
BlueWater was hungry to
take the lead and Ohuegbe beat the sweeper but was
unable to find the top part of the net, sending the ball
soaring over the crossbar.
BlueWater's continued
pressure resulted in a Free Kick just outside the 18
yard box. Brent Arthur made no mistake hammering a high
shot over the Waterloo goalie to give the Blaze a well
deserved lead at 4-3.
With time winding down
and Waterloo desperate, BlueWater was trying hard to
maintain their lead. A foul was called on the BlueWater
winger resulting in a direct free kick for Waterloo. The
Stinger player made no mistake hitting a rising shot
over the outstretched arms of the new Blaze keeper Mario
Hudson and ending the game at 4-4.
The single point awarded
allowed the Jr Blaze to move into a 6th place tie with
London United Vipers. The top 6 teams qualify for the
WOSL next year and the Blaze are confident they can
realize that goal by seasons end. |
