Byron Athletic provided the
opposition for the BlueWater U-11 Jr. Blaze Premier Boys
team Monday night. Byron surprised the BlueWater team
early with two quick goals. BlueWater looked to get back
into the game when Dilly Ohuegbe made a long run and
beat the keeper wide, but his pass to Ryan Lyle for the
finish was judged offside. Byron looked to deal
BlueWater a knock out blow when a passback from a
forward to the midfield resulted in a 30 yard lob shot
which sailed over the out stretched arms of Josh Graham
in the BlueWater net. 3-0 Byron.
The second half started with
great pressure from BlueWater. From the opening kick
BlueWater controlled the ball and sent Dilly Ohuegbe in
alone. Dilly beat the challenging keeper with a chip
over his head and BlueWater had life. Byron looked to
snuff out any Blaze rally with a Penalty Shot awarded.
Josh Graham was up to the task in the Blaze net and
stoned the Athletic player to the cheers of his teamates.
BlueWater found life from the save and were rewarded
when U-10 call up Andrew Shortt passed the ball ahead to
Ohuegbe. Dilly took the keeper wide and hit the open
side for a 3-2 Byron lead.
The Blaze continued to
challenge. Mitchell Leblanc headed the ball to Ohuegbe
who spotted Nik VanBilsen but the shot sailed wide of
the post. U-10 call up Jordon Walsh then beat the
Athletic sweeper but punched his shot just wide.
BlueWater had momentum and
it looked like they would tie the score when Ohuegbe
found Marcus Dusseault open on the wing. Dusseault's
left footed attempt skirted just outside the far post.
The Cheerleading team of
Dylan Wardell, Ryan Lyle, Daniel Vallee and Matt Cservik
could not compel the Blaze to score again and Byron went
home with a nervous 3-2 victory.
