The BlueWater Jr. Blaze
played their final away game, travelling to London to
compete against the London Gunners White. BlueWater
started strongly against the undermanned Gunners. Smart
passing from Nik VanBilsen gave Dilly Ohuegbe a chance
that was saved by the London keeper. Andrew Shortt then
set up VanBilsen who could not beat the netminder. Next
Josh Graham the Blaze keeper kick long to Ohuegbe who
sent VanBilsen on a break away but the shot sailed wide.
The Blaze continued to dominate when Dylan Wardell from
the wing sent a through ball to Ohuegbe but again the
Gunner keeper kept the game knotted at 0's. Late in the
first half VanBilsen threw the ball in to Ohuegbe. Dilly
raced past the sweeper and was in alone when he was
tackled hard from behind. Penalty kick awarded to the
Blaze. Mitchell Leblanc calmly placed the ball and then
drill home a shot to the right side for a 1-0 BlueWater
lead at the half.
The second half was also controlled by BlueWater.
VanBilsen again threw the ball into Ohuegbe who beat the
defender and deposited his team best 12th marker for a
2-0 lead. Brent Arthur ,who was playing a strong game at
right full back, was asked to take a direct free kick
from outside the 18 yard box. Arthur's high shot beat
the London goalie and BlueWater had a comfortable 3-0
lead. The Blaze were hungry for more goals. A great
opportunity arose when Ryan Lyle spotted Dylan Wardell
in front of the Gunner net, the shot was saved by the
keeper even with the hard charging Daniel Vallee bearing
down. A glorious team passing game resulted in another
great scoring opportunity for the Blaze. A pass from
Matt Cservik found Marcus Dusseault. Dusseault early
released to Vallee who one touched to Wardell. Wardell
shielded the defender and found Vallee in support.
Daniels high pass found the head of Lyle but the London
keeper made an astute save. Great passing BlueWater!
London found a spark
when there was confusion marking in front of the Blaze
net. The Blaze stopper did not challenge and the
shot sailed into the right corner of the BlueWater
net to close the gap to 3-1. Five minutes after their
goal, London again pushed the ball into the middle of
the BlueWater defence. No challenge on the shot and the
game was now a 3-2 nail biter.
BlueWater was determined
not to let the game slip away after dominating for the
majority of time. A wide pass to Dusseault, resulted in
a timely cross to Jordon Walsh. Walsh made no mistake
and scored to give the Blaze a 4-2 advantage. BlueWater
was not content with 4 goals and continued to press the
Gunners defence. VanBilsen took a direct free kick which
found the head of Walsh in front and Jordon had his
second of the game. 5-2 Blaze. BlueWater was hopeful
to add to their season high in goals when a throw in
found Vallee wide. Daniels' pass ahead to Wardell was
passed back to midfielder Andrew Shortt. Shortt blasted
a rising shot just over the cross bar. After the goal
kick a nice pass from Sweeper Stephen Blysniuk found a
hard working Steven Taylor. Taylors shot beat the London
goalie but the referee blew the play just offside. Great
effort Steven!
The London homeside drew
a collective sigh of relief when the final whistle blew
with BlueWater only scoring 5 in the well deserved
victory.
