The Bluewater Jr. Blaze
Premier U-11 recently competed in the Tom Ogle Memorial
Tournament at Germain Park.

The first
game saw Bluewater play SouthEnd London.
Bluewater pressed early and often in the
opening half. Jenelle Labadie, Nicolas
VanBilsen and Dilly Ohuegbe all had
excellent scoring scoring chances but could
not hit mesh. The defence of Matthew Doidge,
Stephen Blysniuk, Colton Knott, and Brent
Arthur kept the London squad to their own
side of half for most of the opening stanza.
Bluewater scored their first goal on when
Ryan Lyle hustled to win the ball and sent a
shot on goal, the keeper could not handle
the kick and Andrew Short was their to
finish the play. Bluewater continued to
press and was rewarded when Daniel Vallee
found Jordon Walsh who hit an open Ryan
Lyle. One touch later with a left foot and
the score was 2-0 Blaze. |
The Blaze did not let up in the second half.
Marcus Dusseault won the ball at midfield
and made a wide pass to Lyle. Lyle made a
good run and decided to cross the ball to a
charging Daniel Vallee who buried the ball
behind the London keeper.
Bluewater closed out the scoring on a short
corner kick which surprised the London team.
The eventual cross went to Andrew Short who
celebrated his second goal of the contest.
Final 4-0 Bluewater. |

The second
game saw Bluewater play Byron. Bluewater
again came out strong. Nicolas VanBilsen and
Steven Taylor both had good scoring chances
but could not beat the Byron netminder. A
long ball from Daniel Vallee to the striker
Jordon Walsh set up a breakaway on net but
again Bluewater was thwarted.
In the second
half Bluewater finally broke through.
Nicolas VanBilsen was took the ball wide
around the Byron defence. His rising shot
caught the top part of the net just inside
the far post. 1-0 Bluewater. Later,
Mitchell Leblanc made a wise decision to
switch the ball over to Jenelle Labadie, a
quick flick over to VanBilsen and Bluewater
had a 2-0 lead. Byron tried to mount an
attack later in the game but keeper Mario
Hudson preserved the shut out.
The win
ensured a semi-final date on Sunday against
Harrow.

Sunday saw
the Bluewater Blaze take on Harrow in Semi-Final action.
Bluewater had dominated the opposition and continued
their impressive play in the early going against Harrow.
Brent Arthur sent a good ball to Nicolas VanBilsen. The
Bluewater winger made a beautiful cross to Matthew
Cservik who tipped the ball ahead to Dilly Ohuegbe but
the Harrow keeper was up to the task.

Harrow was able to attack
late in the first half. VanBilsen was called for a foul
outside the 18 yard box. The Harrow player lofted a high
kick that Mario Hudson the Bluewater keeper could not
control and Bluewater was trailing for the first time in
the Tournament.
Bluewater had a glorious
chance to tie the game just before half. Ryan Lyle was
sent in alone and deposited the ball behind the Harrow
goalie, only to have the referee blow the play dead as a
Harrow player was lying injured in the 18 yard box. As
the player recovered and left the playing field the half
was called.

The Pep talk by Coach Arthur at halftime seemed to spark
the Blaze. Bluewater continued to pressure Harrow. A
Harrow player was forced to foul the Bluewater forward
and Stephen Blysniuk was granted a direct kick. The
Blaze stopper made no mistake and knotted the game at 1.
Bluewater rejuvenated
with the goal would not let up. Marcus Dusseault the
Blaze captain won a 50-50 ball at mid field he carried
the play until he made a deft pass to VanBilsen who used
his left foot to beat the Harrow goalie and give
Bluewater the lead 2-1.
Bluewater was not content
to sit on its lead. Dylan Wardell won the ball on the
far sideline and chipped the ball over the Harrow
defender to a streaking Steven Taylor. Taylor was in
alone on the keeper but could not increase the Blaze
lead. The defence took over and Harrow never threatened
the remainder of the game. Harrow had scored a goal but
the Bluewater team had given up only one shot for the
game. Final 2-1 Bluewater and off to the Finals.

The Finals
set up an exciting match with the cross town
Fury U-11 Premier Team.
Bluewater
again started strong. A through ball from
Marcus Dusseault to Jordon Walsh resulted in
a hard foul just outside the Fury 18 yard
box. Nicolas VanBilsen blasted the direct
kick just wide of the far post.
A few minutes later Bluewater struck. Walsh
jitterbugged through the Fury defence and
deposited the ball behind Josh Elsley, the
Fury Keeper. |
|
Bluewater kept the pressure on the Fury and
Dusseault found Dilly Ohuegbe who beat the
Fury defender and crossed to Jenelle
Labadie. The Bluewater mid-fielder fired a
shot that sailed just wide over the top
right post. The Blaze again had a great
opportunity when a hand ball resulted in a
direct kick for Stephen Blysniuk. Blysniuk
struck the ball but again the shot was wide. |
The Fury found their
legs just before the half ended. Brent Arthur the
Bluewater defender was called for a foul on Craig Gunn.
Indirect kick Fury. Gunn took the kick and spotted
Konnor Harris unmarked. The Fury forward made a smart
re-direct with the outside of his foot and found the net
behind the Bluewater keeper Mario Hudson. 1-1 at the
half.
 |
The second
half started with the Fury freely
substituting fresh legs. Bluewater elected
to stay with the unit who had controlled the
play for the first part of the first half.
The result was
continued Fury pressure. Back to back Fury
free kicks were cleared to safety after
scrambles in front of the Bluewater goal.
The Fury continued to control the play and
were rewarded when Anthony Fazzalari punched
a free kick past Hudson into the Blaze goal.
2-1 Fury.
The Fury again changed forwards and were
rewarded when Trevor McEwan sprinted down
the left side and crossed to Dylan Caron
whose left foot shot eluded Hudson to make
the final 3-1 Fury. |

Congrats to both teams for a
well played game.
The Blaze is back in Action
May 28 when they play their first home game against
Waterloo. |
