After a two week lay-off the BlueWater
Blaze Premier U-11 Boys soccer team were eagerly
awaiting their challengers Cambridge United.
BlueWater struck early. Colton Knott the Blaze defender
sent a pass ahead to midfielder Marcus Dusseault.
Dusseault sent a high shot from the left side that
sailed over the keepers head and BlueWater had the lead.
Cambridge was able to score a fluke goal to tie the
game. Cambridge shot from just over half. The ball
bounced on the hard turf and drifted over the head of
Josh Graham who was playing for the vacationing Mario
Hudson. 1-1.
BlueWater was undeterred and a nice pass from NiK
VanBilsen to Jordan Walsh resulted in a take down inside
the Cambridge box. The penalty kick was taken by Mitchel
Leblanc who sent the kick off the cross bar. A hard
charging Walsh was able to head the ball into the goal
for a 2-1 BlueWater lead at halftime.
BlueWater continued to control the play with great
scoring opportunities from Dilly Ohuegbe, Daniel Vallee
and Nik VanBilsen. The Blaze did capitalize again
when Jenelle Labadie sent a ball to VanBilsen who went
wide to Dilly Ohuegbe. Dilly's kick found the cross bar
but the rebound was followed on by Colton Knott who was
able to score. 3-1 Blaze.
Cambridge realized they needed some offence and pressed
the Blaze defence, two great saves by Graham were made,
however the ball was not cleared and Cambridge closed
the gap to 3-2.
Strong play by Dylan Wardell, Andrew Shortt, Brent
Arthur, Matt Cservik, Ryan Lyle and Stephen Blysniuk
kept the game at 3-2 late into the contest. With 30
seconds to play Cambridge cleared the ball downfield. A
foot race ensued with the Blaze defender and the
Cambridge forward. The BlueWater defender made a hard
tackle that the referee ruled was a foul inside the box,
Penalty Kick to Cambridge. Graham was able to get a
diving hand on the ball, however the ball had enough
momentum to trickle into the lower corner and tie the
score at 3. The referee promptly blew the whistle to end
the game in a heart wrenching tie.
BlueWater is next in action at home Saturday against the
Sarnia Fury. 1:00 at St.Clair.
BlueWater then visits the Fury Monday night at the Dante
Club 6:45 pm start.
