The BlueWater Jr. Blaze U-11
Premier Team looked to move up the standings with a home
game against the London City Gunners White, Monday June
11.
BlueWater struck in the
first minute when Daniel Vallee pressured the Gunners
defender. The defender surrendered the ball and Vallee
deftly drilled a high shot into the top of the net for
an early lead.
BlueWater continued to press
and won a corner kick. Jenelle Labadie was first to the
ball and found Dilly Ohuegbe who lifted the ball just
over the cross bar to keep the score at 1-0 BlueWater.
BlueWater was playing the
match short handed with the recent injuries to forward
Steven Taylor and goal keeper Mario Hudson.
London received a boost when
confusion in the BlueWater defence allowed a 2 on 0
break. The London forward made no mistake and beat fill
in goalie Jordan Walsh to tie the score.
London was awarded an
Indirect free kick outside the Blaze 18 yard box. The
kick sailed into the BlueWater box and found the head of
a Gunner winger to give the London squad a 2-1 lead.
BlueWater carried most of
the play but found themselves down a goal. Dilly Ohuegbe
the BlueWater striker decided to take things into his
own hands. Ohuegbe had been giving the Gunners defence
fits with his speed all half. Dilly won the ball on his
own side of half. The Sweeper challenged and overplayed
allowing Dilly to punch the ball past him and have a
clear path to the net from Mid Field. A sprinting
Ohuegbe made no mistake knotting the game at 2 with
cheers from the home crowd.
Dilly again made a big run
beating the Gunner's defence but his left footed attempt
was drilled into the goalies chest for a save.
BlueWater continued to
control the game and were awarded a corner just before
half. Nicolas VanBilsen drifted the ball over the throng
and Dylan Wardell making a run was able to get a shot
after a quick hop of the ball but the Gunner's Keeper
was there to make the save. 2-2 at half.
The second half started much
the same as the first. Dilly again beat the half back
and was off to the races, however his shot sailed just
wide of the post.
Matthew Cservik then found
Jordan Walsh (who had now relinquished goal to Marcus
Dusseault) with a quick pass through the London defence.
Walsh deked the sweeper and continued inside the 6 yard
box but his shot was saved by a diving London netminder!
London forced the ball down
the field and were awarded a corner kick. BlueWater was
unable to gain control and clear to safety. The ball was
won by the Gunner's who sent the ball into the middle of
the BlueWater defence. The Gunner forward controlled the
ball and was allowed to turn firing a shot into the top
corner of the net over Dusseault. 3-2 Gunners White.
With the referee looking at
her watch BlueWater knew time was dwindling and moved
their defenders well up into the London City half. A
nice pass to Walsh allowed the BlueWater forward to
break in alone on the London keeper, however as he
attempted a shot the Sweeper pushed the forward causing
the ball to go harmlessly wide. With less than a minute
to play BlueWater was awarded a corner. VanBilsen
crossed the ball into the centre of the box and a Blaze
player headed the ball towards the London net only to be
denied by the keeper. The referee blew the whistle and
BlueWater had suffered a heartbreaking loss to fall to
1-5-1 on the season.
BlueWater next travel to
Kitchener to tackle the first place Kitchener Spirit. |
