After a disappointing 5-1
loss last Monday in Kitchener, the BlueWater Jr. Blaze
U-11 Premier team looked to rebound on home turf against
the Norwest Attack.
BlueWater had an excellent
scoring chance early on. Nik VanBilsen crossed the ball
to the middle of the field. Matt Cservik controlled the
ball and was tackled just outside the Norwest box for an
Indirect kick. VanBilsen touched to Stephen Blysniuk
whose high arching shot sailed high and wide of the top
corner.
Norwest counter-attacked
and were rewarded when the left BlueWater defender was
beaten and the Attack player crossed the ball. A hard
charging Attack forward headed the ball past a surprised
Mario Hudson in the Blaze net.
BlueWater tried to
regroup and tie the score when Daniel Vallee blasted a
shot that was saved by the Attack keeper and cleared to
safety. 1-0 Norwest at the half.
Coach Arthur offered
encouragement to his players at half-time and BlueWater
started strong. A ball deep in the Norwest zone was run
on by VanBilsen, his left footed cross to Jordon Walsh
resulted in a good opportunity but Walsh was unable to
finish.
BlueWater continued to
press and a throw in was won by the Blaze. Walsh made
the cross to Dilly Ohuegbe who corralled the ball,
turned and fired a hard shot off the Attack post! A hard
charging Jenelle Labadie gathered the rebound and
chipped the ball high over the outstretched reach of the
Attack goalie and the Blaze had knotted the score at 1.
Norwest did not wilt and
forced the ball deep into BlueWater territory a mad
scramble in the 18 yard box was eventually cleared and
the score remained tied.
With 10 minutes remaining
in the game BlueWater was looking for the win and
continued to pressure the Norwest defence. Captain
Marcus Dusseault twice raced in from his Midfield
position but his shots were just over the Attack cross
bar both times.
Four minutes remained in
the match when Walsh received a pass, went wide outside
to VanBilsen who sent a cross in the middle to a
streaking Matthew Doidge. Doidge collided with the
Attack keeper and the ball sailed into the goal! But
wait a whistle? Offside Blaze and the score remained at
1-1.
Dusseault was able to win
the ball shortly after the offside play, he sent a pass
in the middle to Walsh who again went outside to
VanBilsen again Nik crossed the ball and the keeper made
a nice play to bat the ball away, however Ohuegbe was
"Johnny on the spot" and buried the ball inside the far
post for a 2-1 BlueWater lead.
Arthur made some late
defensive substitutions but the Blaze were hungry to
score with time running down. A ball won in the middle
by Dylan Wardell was sent to open space and Ohuegbe was
there first. A solid pass to Labadie and the shot sailed
just high over the bar. The ref blew the whistle and
BlueWater was rewarded with a 2-1 win!
BlueWater's next game is
July 9 @ home against Cambridge United. |
