The BlueWater Jr. Blaze U-11
Premier Soccer squad hosted the unbeaten Kitchener
Spirit Saturday June 9th at St. Clair Secondary. The
Blaze started strongly with Dilly Ohuegbe denied by the
Kitchener keeper on a nice pass from Daniel Vallee. Mid
Fielder Jenelle Labadie later made a nice long pass to
Nick VanBilsen who crossed to the front of the Kitchener
net but the Blaze forwards were unable to convert and
the Spirit cleared to safety. The Blaze continued to
dominate the first 15 minutes when both Ryan Lyle and
VanBilsen sailed shots just over the Kitchener cross
bar. Kitchener was
able to weather the Blaze's strong start and the game
started to turn for Kitchener. The Spirit regrouped and
started to play their possession game. Kitcheners first
golden chance was converted when they were awarded a
corner. A beautiful ball into the 6 yard box was
re-directed by a head ball and the Spirit had the
lead. A few minutes later, Kitchener worked the ball
down the field, a lob pass into the Sarnia middle
defence found the foot of the Spirit striker who chipped
the ball under the crossbar for a 2 nil lead. A similar
play before the half saw Bluewater turn the ball over at
mid field. The Kitchener midfield pushed the ball
through the BlueWater defence and finished the play to
take a commanding 3-0 lead at half.
BlueWater was unable to
sustain an attack in the second half and Kitchener
closed with 2 more goals. The final tally was 5-0
Spirit. The loss dropped BlueWater to 1-4-1 on the
season. |
