The Bluewater Jr. Blaze
U-11 Premier team travelled to London Saturday to
kick off their season. The Blaze had the majority of
the play in the first half and London struggled to
beat the solid defensive play of Matt Doidge, Colton
Knott, Brent Arthur and Stephen Blysniuk. No score
at the half.
The Blaze continued to
press in the second half, Steven Taylor, Matthew
Cservick and Dilly Ohuegbe all had chances but the
London keeper continued to thwart the Blaze
forwards. London, with the wind at their backs
started a counter attack at mid field. A good
scoring attempt was prevented by Blaze keeper Mario
Hudson but resulted in a corner kick. The Blaze were
unable to mark all the London players and the Vipers
buried the ball behind the Bluewater keeper.
The London goal only
made the Blaze press harder, solid passing from the
midfield of Marcus Dusseault and Jenelle Labadie
resulted in a glorious attempt for Dylan Wardell.
The Bluewater half back was all alone with only the
London goalie to beat. Electing to dribble rather
than shoot allowed a hard charging Viper fullback to
partially block the shot keeping the score 1-0
London. Coach Arthurs made some late substitutes for
fresh legs which paid dividends. Ryan Lyle was first
to the ball and made a heads up pass to Nik
VanBilsen. The streaking VanBilsen beat the London
defender wide and rifled a shot off the post behind
the London goalie. An astute Daniel Vallee was
pressing on the play and was rewarded with a hard
rising shot to the top of the net to tie the game at
1 with under two minutes to play!
The Bluewater team
earned a hard fought draw. Well done boys!
The team's next game is
Monday May 7 against the London City Gunners Black
6:45 pm Windermere Park London.
