St Thomas 16th
Annual House League Select Tournament
On July 21st/22nd
the Petrolia Oil Barons U12 girls competed
in the 16th Annual House League
Select Tournament in St Thomas. For their
first match up, they beat
Burford by a
score of 2-1. Scoring for Petrolia were
Sarah Charlton and Jenna
Rops. Later that
day, the girls faced the St Thomas All Stars
and lost 6-0. Sharing duties in net for
Petrolia was MacKenzie Knight and Mallory
Straatman. Then,
on Sunday morning, they played the
Flamborough
Flames ending the round robin portion of the
tournament with a loss of 2-0. They;
however, ended in 2nd spot in
their pool and found themselves in the
semifinals. For this game they had to again
play the St Thomas All Stars. Petrolia led
very early in the game by a goal from
Mallory Straatman.
St Thomas replied a bit later with a goal
but Petrolia would take the lead from a shot
by Lexine
VanLeerzen and
held on to defeat a very surprised St Thomas
team by a score of 2-1. Petrolia earned the
spot in the finals by the entire team
playing very hard combined with solid effort
in net by MacKenzie Knight. The Oil Barons
had to play Flamborough
Flames again in the final. They had to
settle for (a well earned) “FINALIST” cup
having been defeated by the tournament
champions from
Flamborough by a score of 3-0.
After becoming
finalists at the 16th Annual St
Thomas tournament over the weekend, the
girls returned to LKDSL action on July 23rd,
when Petrolia U12 Oil Barons played against
the U14 Wallaceburg
team losing the game by a score of 1-0.
