The Petrolia Oil Barons U12
girls team record their first win of the season by
defeating the Corunna Wildcat's team by a score of 3-0.
In the first half, Sarah Charlton shot the ball from
outside the 18 yard box right over the Corunna keepers
head, putting the Oil Barons on the scoreboard 1-0. The
Petrolia full backs (Haylee McFadden, Hannah Tremblay,
Lexine VanLeerzen, Katelyn Murray), were on the top of
their game as they defended the ball well. The mid
fielders (Jenna Rops, Sarah Charlton, Mallory Straatman,
Erica Vandersteen and Jennifer Zavitz), consistently
pushed the ball forward. The Petrolia strikers (Rachel
Coady, Gillian McGregor, Brittany Sefton, Jenna
Vandeneynde, Sydney Walsh and Megan Vasey) had numerous
scoring opportunities.
In the second half, Petrolia took control of the game
from 2 quick goals by Brittany Sefton. There was some
excitement at the Oil Barons goal line as the Petrolia
keeper got a hold of the ball but was pushed into the
net, body and ball, by a frustrated Wildcat. A foul was
called and no goal was awarded. MacKenzie Knight had a
very strong showing in net for the Oil Barons and
recorded her first shut out for the season. The girls
should be very proud of the way they played as this was
truly a team effort and a team win. |
