Langtree White Showed
“Heart” and Outplayed
Langtree Navy
In an exciting game between
the two Langtree teams, the
white-shirted team defeated
the navy-shirted team to win
5 to 3.
Early in the first half,
navy led the scoring with a
goal by Mathew Nicholls
assisted by a perfectly
placed pass from Denver
Taylor. White answered navy
with a goal of their own one
minute later. The navy team
continued to apply pressure
and their positional and
passing play was amazing.
Having only learned a new
“Goal Kick Break-Out Play”
that evening, the
navy-shirted players
executed the play with
precision, making a five
pass play originating with
the goalie to score the navy
team’s second goal of the
night. On the play was
navy’s goalie Logan Howes,
Denver Taylor, Tim
MacNaughton, Robert
Nicholls, and finally Justin
Riley-Meyer who deked one
white player and then placed
a perfect shot past white’s
goalie. From the
originating goal kick to the
navy scored goal, the white
team didn’t touch the ball.
This should have inspired
the navy-shirted team but it
seemed to be the turning
point in the game as navy’s
play was much more subdued
from this point on while
white gained a boost of
energy and controlled much
of the remainder of the
game. White added another
goal at the end of the first
half to tie the game at 2
apiece. In the second half,
white added yet another goal
to take the lead for the
first time in the game.
Navy’s Tim MacNaughton made
a nice individual effort on
a misplaced goal kick by the
white team to tie the game
at 3. White came back and
added two more goals to
finish the game 5 – 3.
The first half play was
exciting and amazing at
times with exceptional
passing and positional play
by the navy team. However,
it wasn’t enough as Langtree
white showed heart and
outplayed Langtree navy to
win the game.
