The boys just finished
playing four games in the past week grabbing 10 out
of a possible 12 points. The boys started last
Monday the 6th at home against Cambridge with a
decisive 3-1 win. Craig Gunn started the scoring
with a well placed shot to the top corner from
outside the 18 yard box. Cambridge tied the game
with a questionable penalty shot which left the
score tied at the half. Sarnia came out gunning in
the second which had Richeal O Neill put a ball
through to Gunn for a break on net which he beat the
keeper to the bottom corner. Declan Mayo later sent
a ball through to a streaking Riley Roberts which he
made no mistake in finding the back of the net.
Great game from the defensive line of Taylor, Mitch,
Alec, Matteo and the keeper Josh Elsley to hold
Cambridge at bay.
The very next
night had Sarnia travelling to Guelph to play a team
which they had tied twice 1-1 in the only two
meetings. Sarnia started off great in less than
ideal weather conditions. The boys played some of
their best soccer yet this season, beating Guelph
to every loose ball and challenging hard on every
tackle. It wasn't until early in the second half
which showed Sarnia string together seven or eight
beautiful passes starting from the defense and
finishing with Dylan Caron beating a very talented
keeper. It looked like Sarnia was finally going to
beat Guelph for the first time until with 2 minutes
left in the game a loose ball on the penalty spot
found an opposing players foot and the back of the
net to tie the game. Once again a 1-1 game. The
boys deserved a better result which was acknowledged
by the Guelph coach. The boys meet Guelph again in
the challenge cup in which there can be no tie.
Last Saturday
had Sarnia travelling to London to meet the Vipers.
Sarnia, missing players to holidays, had to call up
Grant Oreskovich and Adam Mcewan from House
League to help out. With a lot of the boys playing
out of their positions the Fury took a while to get
settled. Once that happened the shots started
flying. Sarnia had many chances to score and did
off a free kick outside the 18 yard box from Declan
Mayo. Sarnia continued to carry the play until a
little confusion by the defense led to a scramble in
front of Sarnia's net which had the ball
pushed across the line. Tie game at the half. The
second half started off with Sarnia continuing to
push but finding no results. A quick switch of
Craig Gunn from the wing to foward for Konnor Harris
proved to be the key. Within minutes a ball from
Trevor Mcewan to Konnor H. and then on to Craig G.
found the back of the net for the go ahead goal.
Picking up momentum Sarnia continued to push with a
through ball from Justice Kerkhof finding Gunn again
for an insurance goal to finish the game. Great
game from the boys on a very hot day. Also thanks
to Grant and Adam for stepping in and helping the
boys to a 3-1 win.
The
fourth game of the week had London Gunners White
visiting Sarnia. The Fury started of the game a
little slow allowing London to carry the play for
the start of the game. Could be from the amount of
play in a short time. Once the Fury go their heads
together the game started to turn. A well placed
cross from the right wing found Craig Gunn's head
for the first goal. London not giving in easy
pushed forward and tied the game within minutes.
Sarnia then pushed back and were rewarded with a
goal from Richeal Oneill which he carried into the
18 around three defenders to finish low to the left
side. But once again London pushed ahead and with a
strong cross from the left put the tieing goal in
off the post. Tied at the half. Again Sarnia had
to put forward a strong second half and after
shuffling some players they did just that. Declan
Mayo started with a break down the wing followed by
a strong cross to the foot of Riley Roberts which he
finished without a problem. Playing off the
momentum from that goal J-G Gardner found himself
with the the ball 25 yards out and let loose a
cracker which just dipped under the crossbar for
the fourth goal. Still playing hard Justice Kerkhof
battled to put a through ball to a streaking Dylan
Caron who made no mistake for the fifth and final
goal. Final 5-2.
A great effort by
everyone to have such a successful week. Good job
boys!!
