Sarnia travelled to
Chatham to take on the second place team for the
semi-final round of play. Both teams came out
strong and aggressive and that pace continued
till the end of the game. One Chatham player
ended up receiving a red card during the second
period, which resulted in his team being
penalized by playing one man short for the last
few minutes of the match.
The Fury played
hard, they were fast, and they all held their
positions well. This resulted in numerous
opportunities to score, and we were rewarded
twice in the first half. The first goal came
from Luke Vanreenen, who easily swept past
his opponents to drop one into the net off of an
assist from Ricky Primeau. The second goal was
sent into the net by Ryan Tanner from
an assist fed to him by Christian McCormick.
The whistle blew for the mid break with a score
of 2 - 0 for Sarnia. The second half started
with a lot of shoving, pushing, and fighting
for ball possession. A Chatham player drew the
attention of the referee and was called twice
with a yellow card, and subsequently red-carded
out of the game. Chatham managed to slip one
goal past the Dominator (Dominic Iacobelli) in
the second half, and Sarnia scored one more time
in the last part of the game with a direct kick
from Ricky Primeau. The game ended in a 3 - 1
win for Sarnia. Dominic saved a total of 15
shots on net, and once again anchored his team
for the win. The boys won the semi-final round
and will play Wallaceburg for the championship
on August 28th.
