The U12 District
Boys Team travelled to Stratford for the weekend
to play 3 games in the annual Festival Cup
Tournament. All 3 matches were played on
Saturday the 18th.
The first match saw
Sarnia play against Fort Erie. This team has
not lost a game yet in the league play, and have
won most tournaments they have played. Given
that, Sarnia still played well and kept up
for most of the game. Spencer Gorman, Riley
Vanbarneveld, and Joshua Core played a great
defensive game during the first half, and Guarav
Arora contributed alot to the second half in
his persistence. Unfortunately, Sarnia fell
victim to the Erie team and lost with a score of
5 - 1. Notably, Sarnia seemed unprepared during
the first half of the game, allowing Fort Erie
to slip past for 4 goals. However, the second
half saw a team more able to set the pace and
keep the opponents back to scoring only one more
goal before the game was over. Our keeper -
Dominic Iacobelli - saved 3 shots during the
first half, and an amazing 13 shots during the
second.
The second game was
more evenly matched against Nor'west with a
score ending in a tie of 1 - 1. Each team
scored once during the first half, and neither
of their efforts could be rewarded during the
second half. Sarnia's goal came from Jared
Bagley with a crossover kick from Ricky Primeau
that placed the ball right in front of the net,
just needing a poke to sneak it past the
goalie. Dominic saved 9 shots during this game,
once again showing the opponents that he was a
force to be reckoned with.
The third game -
again - was fairly evenly matched against the
Middlesex Lightning. The first thing noted
about the opponents was the sheer height of
their players, some over six feet tall. Our
players used their skills and a pretty good
passing game to keep Middlesex on their toes.
For most of the game, the score was a 1 - 1
tie. Middlesex managed to get one more goal
past the Sarnia keeper just prior to the end of
the game. This resulted in a 2 - 1 loss for the
Fury.
Way to go Sarnia!
