Sarnia Girls Soccer
Sarnia Spirit U18
Western Ontario Youth Soccer League (WOYSL)

June 30 - July 2, 2007

On Saturday, June 30th, the U18 WOYSL girl’s team traveled to Guelph to face the first place Royals. This was their first match up of the season. The Spirit was awarded a corner kick taken by Ashley Cechovsky. She took a short pass to Lindsay Postil who passed back to Cechovsky, who crossed the ball in front of the Royal’s keeper and managed to sneak it over the line. A Guelph player ensured the ball was over the line by kicking it to the back of their own net. The lead was short lived as Guelph responded with a goal shortly thereafter. The game ended a 1-1 tie, with each team receiving 1 point.

On July 2nd, Sarnia traveled to London to face the London City Fusion. It was as if a completely different London team showed up to play against the Spirit on this Canada Day weekend. Guest player for the Spirit, Dana Hislop, helped put Sarnia on the scoreboard first by using her quickness to get around the Fusion full backs and crossing the ball out front to Julie Kerr who shot the ball right over the goal keeper’s head. Again the lead was short lived as Alicia Hutchings was required to use some strong defensive tactics deep in Sarnia’s 18 yard box. The Fusion were awarded a penalty kick and capitalized on the opportunity, thus evening the game at 1 goal each. Sarnia, late in the game had an opportunity to take the win as they were awarded a penalty shot after Eliza Garrett was taken down inside the Fusion’s 18 yard box. Ashley Cechovsky took the shot however it just went wide of the net and the Spirit had to settle for their second tie game of the weekend
