6 point weekend for the U18 Spirit team

On Saturday, June 9th, the WOYSL U18 team had a rematch against the Kitchener Spirit. This time the Sarnia Spirit were on the winning side defeating Kitchener by a score of 1-0. It was a rather boring game to watch for the spectators because the majority of the game was played in the middle of the field. Sarnia had a few scoring opportunities but were unable to capitalize on them. Lindsay Postil managed to break into the 6 yard box but was tackled and the Sarnia Spirit were awarded a penalty kick. Ashley Cechovsky took the kick and scored what also turned out to be the only goal of the game.

As many of the girls played in OFSSA soccer last week, the game for June 4th was rescheduled for Sunday, June 10th, when the London Marconi Storm came into town to play against the Sarnia Spirit. This was the first match up for these two team this season. Sarnia controlled the ball well and had several good chances to score; however, the game remained scoreless until mid way through the 2nd half when a Spirit player was fouled deep in the Storm's end. Alicia Hutchings took the free kick and found Becky Lapensee, who headed the ball right to the back of the net. This also turned out to be the winning goal as Sarnia defeated London 1-0.

Danielle St. Germain recorded both shut outs over the weekend and played very solid in net.

The next league game for the team will be Saturday June 16th as they travel to Windsor to play the East Side Kickers.
