The

U11 Boys were victorious in their home tournament held
at Germain Park in Sarnia. In winning the tournament
the team was undefeated; outscoring the opposition 14-2.

The
Bluewater Boys opened the tournament against
the Norwest Dynamite posting a 2-0 victory.
A close game was 0-0 at halftime, but in the
second half, unselfish team passing resulted
in 2 goals.
The first by Ethan Shackleton the second by
Jordan Walsh, the goals started pool play
with a victory. Helping Blake Maxfield earn
the shutout was stellar defense put forth by
Jordan Blasko, Dale Mizener, Christian Mauti,
Chris Docherty, and Joey Taylor.

In the second game, the Middlesex United
Strikers were a determined opposition. A
penalty shot early in the game by Joey
Taylor started the Bluewater Boys scoring.
Next Blake Maxfield added to the lead
finding the net with a long distance shot.
Completing the scoring for Bluewater, Jordan
Walsh scored his second of the tournament
off a beautiful cross from the foot of Marco
DiFederico. Final Score Bluewater 3
Middlesex United 1. Supporting the win was
the solid midfield play by Andrew Shortt and
Adam Craievich. Rookie goaltender Nick
Paquette shone in his tournament game
earning the win.

With a victory needed to outright win the qualifying
pool; Bluewater took on the L.C. Juventus Amigos.
Andrew Shortt opened the scoring, drilling a penalty
shot to the right of the goalie. Four quick goals from
Adam Craievich, Keaton Finch and 2 from Joey Taylor took
Bluewater to half time with a 5-0 lead. In the second
half, 2 goals were added one by Adam Craievich, for his
second of the game and Jordan Walsh. The key to success
was passing where Bluewater Players Colin Osler, Marco
DiFederico, Keaton Finch, and Sam Fairbairn led by
controlling and dominating the midfield and wings.
Blake Maxfield recorded his second shutout of the
tournament. With a 7-0 win, Bluewater had a perfect
record, winning the qualifying pool outright, and
advancing to the finals.

The final was a
rematch with Norwest. The game was played
in muddy, rainy conditions with both teams
being soaked 5 minutes into the game. An
early goal by Ethan Shackleton, 2 minutes
into the match gave Bluewater a 1-0 lead.
Back and forth play through the first half
entertained the hearty parents; but
persistence for Bluewater paid off with
about 5 minutes to play when Jordan Walsh
scored on a pass from Blake Maxfield to
advance Bluewater to 2-0; however a quick
goal by Norwest cut the lead again to only 1
goal. Throughout the second half both
teams had their chances - Bluewater was
faced with some tough goal mouth scrambles,
but Bluewater defense supported netminder
Nick Paquette who came through stopping and
diving on every opportunity to make a save.
At the end of the match with no goals scored
in the second half, Bluewater won the game
2-1 and the tournament title. |
Winning the opening tournament of the season is quite an
accomplishment for a team playing on full field for the
first time. The Bluewater Boys showed plenty of heart,
playing through adversity and yet keeping the
fundamentals of passing and playing “goal side” in
mind. The Bluewater Boys U11 soccer team play their
regular season games in the London District Youth Soccer
league and are sponsored by Wal-Mart and Palazzi Tile.
The U11 Bluewater Boys Soccer team’s head coach is Paul
Craievich; assistant coaches Bob Docherty & Roy
Eddleston, and team manager Dave Shortt. The team’s
next game is Monday, May 12th, at St Clair
High School versus the London City Hotspurs at 6:45 p.m.
