Bluewater Jr. Blaze U-12 vs. Sarnia Fury U-12
The sidelines were filled with spectators to witness the U-12 Bluewater club battle their cross town rivals Sarnia Fury Wednesday night.
The Blaze were off to a good start when
Nic Van Bilsen made a nice cross to Marcus Dusseault. Dusseault laid
off to Jenelle Labadie who drilled a shot but the midfielder could
not beat Anthony Fazzalari playing in the Fury net.
The Fury made a counter-attack and were rewarded when Richeal O’Neil found Konnor Harris in the middle of the 18 yard box. Harris made no mistake and sent a high shot over the arms of Josh Graham in the Bluewater goal.
Bluewater controlled the flow of the game and were nearly rewarded before the half. A Bluewater throw in from Dylan Wardell, was sent back to Ryan Tanner. Tanner made a nice cross to Christian McCormick. McCormick was able to beat Fazzalari and lobbed the ball over the Fury keepers head, but also just over the crossbar preserving a 1-0 Fury halftime lead.
The second half saw Bluewater again control the pace of play. Justus Kerkof-Fox the Bluewater midfielder passed the ball down the wing to Ohuegbe. Ohuegbe crossed the ball to Labadie who spotted VanBilsen wide. Nic’s drive was high over the net and again the Blaze were denied an excellent scoring chance.
The Fury held off the Blaze charge and were set to capitalize when Konnor Harris took a dangerous Free Kick just outside the Blaze 18 yard box. Graham was there for the Blaze to deny Konnor’s second of the game.
Bluewater was determined to even the score. Matt Doidge ran a nice overlap with Van Bilsen who then spotted Ohuegbe. Dilly crossed to Kerkof-Fox who was immediately taken down by a Fury defender. Brent Arthur took the direct free kick, but the hard shot sailed just over the cross bar and again the Blaze were held off the score sheet.
The Fury were having trouble dealing with the Bluewater control game. Labadie won the ball and passed back to Doidge. Matthew’s hard left footed shot sailed high over the cross bar thwarting another Bluewater scoring chance.
Bluewater out chancing and controlling the game appeared snake bitten until Ohugebe crossed to a charging Labadie. Fazzarali challenged but could not get enough of the shot and Bluewater had evened the score at 1.
The Fury would not fold. Playing the ball up the field, a challenge by the Bluewater defense was ruled a foul inside the box. O’Neil stepped up and drilled a low hard shot to the right corner of the net past Graham. 2-1 Fury.
Bluewater looked to tie the score but VanBilsen’s free kick was cleared by the Fury sweeper,Taylor Janzen.
The Fury had an opportunity to put the game away when Daniel Valley was awarded a direct free kick, however Graham rose to the occasion to keep the Blaze hopes alive.
Bluewater knew time was running out and took the play to the Fury. Van Bilsen crossed a beautiful ball to a hard running Dylan Wardell but Fazzarali timed the cross and snatched the ball from the raised foot of the Blaze forward ending the threat. Bluewater continued to dictate the play but could not find the equalizer as Fury was rewarded with a narrow 2-1 victory.
