Sarnia Spirit (0) vs. Kitchener Spirit (0) June 25, 2008
On Wednesday, June 25th Sarnia
traveled to Kitchener for their first match up in league play.
Both teams came out a little slow with very few scoring
opportunities. At the 10 minute mark, Kitchener was allowed a
free kick just outside of Sarnia's 18 yard box, but Mackenzie
Turner would deny Kitchener the goal. With Hayley Potvin
playing solid defence, Kitchener would remain scoreless (as
would Sarnia) after the first half of play. In the 2nd half,
after 30 minutes of play, Sarnia would attempt to penetrate
through the Kitchener defence with passes from Shae-Lynn van
Gassen to Kierstynn Pettit who then crossed to Alicia daSilva
setting up Melissa Blair who could only get a weak shot off.
With only one minute of play remaining, Sarnia tried one
last time for the back of the net. Kierstynn Pettit passed over
to Sidney Weiss who had a Kitchener defender right beside her as
she tried to get a shot away. The game would remain scoreless
for both sides.
