U-12 Sarnia Spirit District
Vs. U-12 Sarnia District Boys
Wednesday, May 14
Germain 1
The exhibition match vs. the
Sarnia District Boys Team was the girls first test as a
group in match play. Both sides played strong matches, with
possession at a fairly equal split.
The boys jumped out to a quick 1
goal lead in the fifth minute with a good cross from just
outside the box. The remainder of the first half showcased
shots at both ends with some near misses from #5 Kadin
Siopidou-D’Andrea and #15 Brittany Sefton. Sarnia Spirit
Goal-Keeper, #16 Emily Pekham, played a solid 1st
half with notable saves in the 20th and 25th
minute of play. Good Defense all around with aggressive
showings from #18 Kelsy Ann Prior, #11 Laura Pugsley and #12
Maria Vani. The Spirit trailed by 1 goal at half-time.
The 2nd half started
out at a similar pace to the 1st, with good
aggressive play on both ends. Sarnia Spirit forward, #8
Emily Sparham, fired a shot from inside the box in the 6th
minute forcing the Boys’ Goal-Keeper to make a good save. 2nd
half Goal Keeper, #1 Kayla Griffiths, played a good half,
highlighted by an excellent diving stop on a partial break
in the 10th minute. After some additional
pressure from the Boys front-line, they potted their 2nd
goal in the 15th minute, set-up by a good cross
from the left. Good play through the middle of the half,
noting solid mid-field play from #17 Melissa Bennett with
some high quality throws keeping possession in the Spirit’s
favour. The Spirit’s defensive play continued to be strong
to this point led by #10 Sydnee Mathany. Towards the latter
stages of the half the Boys’ Team picked up their play
firing goals in the 22nd and 30th
minute.
The match ended in favour of the
Sarnia District Boys, 4-0. Good match from both teams, and
certainly worthy of a re-match later in the year. |
