Away vs Guelph Royals

Sarnia travelled to Guelph on July 19th to play the Royals.  The girls struggled in the first half to find their rhythm but exploded in the second to play very controlled aggressive soccer.  Chloe Cadieux scored on a beautiful long shot from outside the 18 yard box.  Sydney Mellon also scored to win the game 2-1.

Away vs Tecumseh Warriors

Tecumseh Warriors gave the girls a good fight on July 20th.  Sarnia had several chances to score in the game by only found the back of the net once.  Tecumseh added some excitement in the final few minutes of the game after being awarded a penalty shot but failed to score.  Morgan Breeze scored the winner in a 1-0 game.  Karly Dobbin earned the shutout in net.

Away vs Waterloo Wildcats

Sarnia travelled to Waterloo for their 5th straight away game.  Both Sarnia and Waterloo were undefeated up to this point  The Wildcats came out strong in the first few minutes of the game but great defensive play from Carolyn Doidge, Megan Moore, Samantha Mellon, Chloe Cadieux, Sabrina Abram and Elyse Trudell shut them down.  Sarnia then clicked into a gear that completely shut Waterloo down and they never looked back.  Two Spirit goals were scored back to back and knocked the wind out of the undefeated league leaders.  Midfielders Sydney Mellon, Anna Blysniuk, Marlowe Pecora, and Nikki Arthur played strong solid soccer to stop the Wildcats from getting any rhythm started in their play.  Morgan Breeze, Tori Taylor and Erin Alexanders all helped to create some great scoring chances.  Jenna Prevost scored a goal playing one of her best games of the season.  Hannah Kennedy, dealing with a sprained ankle, scored two more goals giving Sarnia a 3-0 win and also first place in league. Karly Dobbin had a great game in net earning the shutout.

Home vs Waterloo Wild Wings

Sarnia’s 9 game undefeated streak in league came to an end on July 27th.  Waterloo Wild Wings came to town and after taking over 1st place the day before, the Spirit came out flat.  The Wild Wings scored within the first couple minutes of the game and Sarnia battled back the whole game.  Many chances were missed once the Spirit gained back control but Sydney Mellon’s goal wasn’t enough as the team lost 2-1.
