Sarnia Spirit U15 L3 Girls are

OHIO NOSO CUP CHAMPIONS!!!
The team
travelled to North Olmstead, Ohio this past
weekend to play in the NOSO Cup. The level
of soccer that the girls played was above
and beyond what they have played so far this
season and was amazing to watch. The
perfect rhythm started at the beginning of
the first game and continued on until the
final play of the championship game. There
was a will to score and win out of each and
every player. The solid defensive play from
Sabrina Abram, Carolyn Doidge, Elyse Trudell,
Chloe Cadieux, Megan Moore and Samantha
Mellon was amazing. Not one goal was allowed
against the Spirit in 4 games!

DMS
Academy from Rochester, New York was the
first opponent of the weekend. Sarnia
started out creating 4 or 5 great chances
but had some troubles finishing. They did a
great job controlling, passing and
frustrating the other team. Hannah Kennedy
got a beautiful goal on a very well placed
shot. Tori Taylor tackled a ball hard and
won the battle with the goalie to score the
second goal in a 2-0 win.
The second game vs the home town team was an
easy challenge for the Spirit team.
After 15 minutes of total control the girls
had their opponent frustrated and running
around chasing the ball. The
Brazillian rhythm that came from midfielders
Marlowe Pecora, Nicki Arthur, Sydney Mellon,
and Anna Blysniuk was the key to this game
and the others as well. Hannah and
Tori each scored again in this game with two
from Jenna Prevost and a single from Marlowe
Pecora. The score was 5-0 but could
have been much higher.

The third game
turned into more of a rugby
match with a very strong and
aggressive team from Pittsburg,
the Victory Express.
Hannah Kennedy was fouled
intentionally early in the first
half which took her out of the
game and the rest of the
tournament. That was just
the start of many calls
throughout the game. There
were not many scoring chances in
this game for either team.
They were very well matched in
strength but Sarnia’s control
should have won them the game.
Morgan Breeze had a beautiful
breakaway chance to win the game
but was taken down hard from
behind just outside the 18 yard
box. The game ended in a
scoreless tie. |
Two wins and a
tie earned them a spot in the championship
game. For the third time this season,
Sarnia met the London’s Southwest
Tornadoes. The last meeting ended in a 1-1
tie. Sarnia knocked the wind right of the
Tornadoes scoring two quick goals. London’s
players got down on themselves and each
other and Sarnia just kept coming at them.
Marlowe Pecora and Erin Alexanders scored
two beautiful goals each with a single from
defender Carolyn Doidge.
The 5-0 win gave
the Sarnia Spirit the NOSO Cup
Championship!

Karly Dobbin earned all 4
shutouts in net. The team is coached by
Kevin Simmonds, John Blysniuk and Alan Speed
and managed by John Doidge.
