Sarnia Girls Soccer
WOYSL Regional League (L4)

Sarnia Spirit Girls Under 15 Regional L4 team play their league home opener Saturday, May 24th @ 5pm on Veterans field in Sarnia vs. Orangeville.  The team will be playing in the Western Ontario Youth Soccer league with Guelph, Kitchener, London, Orangeville, Tecumseh, and two Waterloo teams.

Pre-Season Highlights

The girls have had a very good start in exhibition play so far this season.  They have taken on some high caliber teams to prepare them for league.  The first game vs. an OYSL team, the London Gryphon’s U16 Soccer Academy ended in a 3-0 loss.  The girls had a great game for the first game of the season.  The next opponent was the Sarnia Fury U14 Regional boys team.  It was a very hard fought battle for both teams that remained scoreless until the last minute of the game.  The Fury took the win 1-0.  Sarnia Spirit U16 L3 Regional team gave the girls another very good game right to the end but once again shut down the U15 offence.  The U16’s took a 1-0 win.  The girls then headed to Chatham to take on the Premier Ladies team.   Sarnia scored their first goal of the season on a rebound by Morgan Breeze.  Chatham took the 2-1 win but Sarnia played very well both offensively and defensively.  Corunna Wildcats Premier Ladies took on the U15’s the next week.  Erin Alexanders scored for Sarnia in a 1-1 tie game.

Kick Off Classic Tournament

The team then headed to Tillsonburg for the League’s Kick Off Classic tournament.  Sarnia played a very controlled game in the opener vs. Tecumseh.  Erin Alexanders and Anna Blysniuk lead the team in a 2-0 win.

The second game of the tournament found them up against a very strong Waterloo team.  This game was back and forth all game.  Sarnia’s defense was outstanding to give the team a scoreless tie.  Karly Dobbin earned both shutouts for Sarnia.

The win and tie put Sarnia in 1st place of the 7 teams to receive a bye into the semi finals.  The wind played havoc in this game vs. Kitchener.  Sarnia had control most of the first half but couldn’t find the back of Kitchener’s net.  Kitchener had the wind in their favor the 2nd half and worked hard to earn the only goal of the game knocking Sarnia out with a 1-0 win.

The team will compete in Ontario Cup which will be held in Sarnia at Veterans Park June 14th and 15th.  Other members of the team are Samantha Mellon, Jenna Prevost, Hannah Kennedy, Sydney Mellon, Marlowe Pecora, Elyse Trudell, Nikki Arthur, Chloe Cadieux, Megan Moore, Carolyn Doidge, Sabrina Abram and Tori Taylor.  The team is coached by Kevin Simmonds, Alan Speed and John Blysniuk.
