2009 Bluewater Lightning U10 Boys

Game 1 (Wednesday May 6th)
Wallaceburg "A" - 7, Bluewater Lightning - 1

Bluewater played their first game of the season vs a very strong team from Wallaceburg.
Bluewater came out nervous and tentative in the first half and at times seemed to be watching Wallaceburg pass the ball around.  Wallaceburg quickly went up 3-0 on two goals from outside the box that goalkeeper Aidan Manery did not stand much of a chance on and scored the third goal on a scramble in front of the net.   The luck was certainly with Wallaceburg on this night as the next goal went in off of one of Bluewater defenders and just at the end of the first half, Wallaceburg scored another goal to lead 5-0.  Bluewater juggled the line-up and came out very strong in the second half.  Cameron Adam scored a nice goal to make it 5-1 but Wallaceburg scored another goal off of one of Bluewater defenders to restore the 5 goal lead and then scored on a mad scramble in front of the net.  Colin Yazdani made a great rush up the field and was taken down in the box for a penalty shot.  Cameron Adam stepped up and took the shot only to see it hit the crossbar and straight down and out.
Final score, Wallaceburg "A" - 7 and Bluewater Lightning - 1.

Game 2 (Wednesday May 13th)
Chatham - 5, Bluewater Lightning - 2

Bluewater Lightning travelled to Chatham to play their second game of the season.  Bluewater had numerous chances off the get go with Cameron Adam and Jack Bedard having decent shots on net forcing the keeper to make some nice saves.  Chatham scored half-way through the first half on a goalmouth scramble that Tracer Mackay did not even see.  Chatham then went up by two on a shot from outside which Mackay got an arm on but it skipped in due to the wet conditions.  Bad luck plagued Bluewater again as a long cross skipped off the grass and struck one of the defenders in the arm, creating a penalty shot.  The Chatham player drilled a hard shot down the middle which went off of Mackay and into the net.  Bluewater then came out firing in the second half with Nicholas Iacobelli scoring two beautiful goals to cut the lead to 3-2.  Chatham got one goal back on a long shot which was just over the reach of Mackay.  Iacobelli then had another great opportunity on a long shot which the Chatham keeper stopped but gave up a huge rebound, unfortunately no Bluewater striker followed up the play to cash in the rebound.  With Bluewater pressing, Chatham scored one more goal to make the score 5-2.  The game was called with 15 minutes to go due to darkness.
Final score, Chatham - 5 and Bluewater Lightning - 2.

Game 3 (Thursday May 21st)
Bluewater Lightning - 0, Bluewater Thunder - 0

The two Bluewater "U10" teams faced off against one another in a league game.  The players are very familiar with each other as they have practiced together for a few months now and have even had some scrimmages against each other.

Both teams started tentatively with very few scoring chances early in the game.  Jakeb Gray had a couple of great chances late in the first half for the Lightning but was stopped by the Thunder goalkeeper.  Nicholas Iacobelli, Jack Bedard and Brendyn Hazlitt also had some chances but again to no avail.  The Thunder had some nice chances in the first half but Tracer Mackay shut the door as well.

The second half brought more defensive play from both teams and few quality chances.  Iacobelli took a free kick from the edge of the box which was stopped by the Thunder wall and Daniel Wellington put the rebound just wide.

Cameron Adam, Zachary Matias, Taylor Iacobelli, Colin Yazdani and Aidan Manery all played solid defensive games keeping the Thunder sharpshooters to the outside all day and giving them very little to shoot at.
The final score was Bluewater Lightning - 0 and Bluewater Thunder - 0.
