The Bluewater U-11 Blaze took to their home
pitch to take on the London United Swat for their
third league game. The boys were looking to avenge
a tough one goal loss to the United Swat in the
Bluewater tournament just over a week earlier.
The boys started out strong with a long kick from
Liam Wadden on to Zack Vanderwals foot in London's
end corner. After some fancy footwook, Zack passed
over to Franco Sproviero for a beautiful shot that
went slightly wide. But London was there to play a
strong game and they pressed back to Bluewater's end
shortly after. London sent the ball in front of
Bluewater's goal with feet flying from both teams.
London was able get a foot on the bouncing ball and
sent one past the keeper to start the game 1-0.
London had another strong chance shortly after when
a handball was called in the 18 yard box against
Bluewater. Goalkeeper Christian Lyle took on the
"big" stance which must have done the job
as London kicked the ball high above the net.
Franco Sproviero followed up with a long run up the
side wide, doing some fancy footwork around the
London team to push Bluewater back into London's
end. A whistle for a free kick gave Bluewater a
chance to put another on the scoreboard. Justin
Nantais took full advantage, sending a soaring kick
into the 18 yard box which deflected of a London
players head and went right into the London net.
Late in the first half, another run by Bluewater
gave Franco Sproviero a chance to demonstrate his
footwork with a fake out past the London defense to
send the ball past the London keeper to end the half
2-1 Bluewater.
The second half had Bluewater in another scoring
position with a corner kick right in front of the
London keeper. The ball was fumbled with feet
flying at it but hit the goalpost and bounced back
out. London took control of the ball, pushing the
play into Bluewater's end. London took a big kick
just outside the 18 yard box, bouncing high over the
goal keepers head into the net to tie up the
game.
Bluewater didn't give up, and the entire teams' hard
word resulting in a scoring position very quickly.
Strong defense by Nick Gardner, Liam Wadden, Justin
Nantais, Sam Cokes and Patrick Medd kept the ball in
London's field throughout most of the second
half. Great pushes and footwork on the sidelines by
Morgan Halcovitch with big kicks from Andrew Degroot
allowed for numerous scoring opportunities that paid
off with Franco putting in his second of the night.
Zach Vanderwal gave it his all pushing the the ball
up the field for great chances by Bluewater. Aaran
Pollock, Nick Laird and Myles Mclean played a strong
midfield, throwing the ball up to the forward
positions for further opportunities.
The final goal of the night was a beautiful setup by
Brennan Pearce through the London defense inside the
18 yard box to Ricardo Tersigni, pushing it past the
London keeper for a final score of 4-2.
Great work Bluewater - keep it up!
