May 25th
Bluewater 4 - Sarnia Fury 0

May 25 was the date Bluewater U-11's took on the local competition at St Christopher's pitch.  Both the Sarnia Fury and Bluewater kept active ahead of the first whistle while fans in the stands layered on the winter parkas to keep the spirit up.  Bluewater came out strong, making multiple rushes to the Fury net giving the Fury netminder a workout.   Multiple corner kicks and a free kick just couldn't find there way into the back of the net, including one beautiful corner kick from Halcovitch passed to Vanderwal high in the air looking to be over  the Fury goalie's head but stopped it at the last moment.  Bluewater made their way onto the scoresheet with a throw in from the side over to Halcovitch who put a wide cross kick into the Fury net.  Halcovitch put the second of the night in just before half with the support of forwards and midfield surrounding the net.

The second half of the game brought the Fury out strong and Bluewater's defence got a workout.  The score looked to be tightened up when a free kick in the Bluewater end was called.  All eyes were on the Fury kicker and Bluewater's netminder as the kick was released but missed the net leaving the 2 goal lead intact.  Bluewater worked hard to push the ball back into the Fury end and succeeded with another goal high on the net from Sproviero.  Bluewater continued to work the Fury netminder (and the goalposts!) with multiple kicks and shots, and were finally rewarded with Sproviero putting the final goal of the game in the net with only minutes to spare.

June 3
Bluewater 0 - Oakridge Super Eagles 4

Wednesday brought the #1 rated Super Eagles to Bluewater's home pitch for what was billed to be a tough, but hopefully winnable game.  Play started off evenly, with the Eagles missing a chance to score by hitting the goalpost high and Bluewater rushing to the Eagle's goalie minutes into the game.  The Eagles made their way onto the scoresheet with a goal scored off after a great stop by the Bluewater defence was passed over to an open Eagle's forward and into the net.  Bluewater knew for certain then that they needed to play their strongpoint defensive game, and did well at stopping and intercepting passes made by the Eagles team in our end.  The strategy worked well and Bluewater was rewarded by a chance just before half for a shot on the Eagles netminder but just couldn't push it past him.

The second half had Bluewater getting a work-out, giving it their all to push the ball past the strong Eagles defense when they could.  Eagles managed to put one into the net with a high header over the Bluewater netminder seconds after play resumed.  Five minutes into the half Bluewater had a chance on net that was picked up by the Eagles goalie after a good kick by the boys in blue.  Minutes later the Eagles were back in the Bluewater end scoring their third goal of the night.  Bluewater didn't give up and it looked like a penalty shot was going to be called in their favour when Degroot looked to be tripped inside the 18 yard box but the call didn't come and play continued on.  The fourth and final goal for the Eagles was scored high in the net after being stopped on the ground by the Bluewater netminder.

A great pat on the back to the Bluewater boys for the hard work and 'never say die' attitude.  While its always tough to lose games, that type of work ethic and mindset will only make you better players, and a better team in the end!
