Bluewater Jr. Blaze U-13 July 10/09

The Blaze traveled to London, looking to get back to their early season winning ways. The opponent on this night was SouthEnd Sabres. A London throw in was intercepted by Brandon Foster in the Blaze midfield. A deft pass to Dilly Ohuegbe and the old adage “speed kills” was in full evidence as Ohuegbe gave the visitors a quick 1-0 lead.

The Blaze passing game was in fully evidence when Marcus Dusseault dished to Mitchell Leblanc who in turn found Richael O’Neill. A shot but the London keeper guessed right to keep his squad within one.

Drew McFeggan carried the ball and made a smart switch with a long arcing ball Garth Denys on the wing. A long-range shot was handled by the Sabre netminder.

Bluewater was dangerous again when O’Neill penetrated with some slick ball control and took a shot, the rebound bounced to Dusseault but he was unable to power the ball past the keeper.

London countered attacked and penetrated the Blaze defense. Only an errant shot wide kept the game in Bluewater’s favour.

A spot kick for the Blaze saw a pass into O’Neill but a shot near post missed wide.

London again were allowed to walk through the Bluewater defense but their hard luck continued with another shot wide of the mark.

London looked to have the equalizer when the Blaze defense retreated as a unit into the 18-yard box. A scramble ensued but a shot sailed over the net and Bluewater escaped another close call.

Ryan Tanner carried the ball up to Matt Cservik. Cservik was fouled hard and won a free kick for the Blaze. Leblanc lobbed a shot into the box and Matt Sheeler was there to finish after the goalie tipped the ball…..but No the flag went up for an offside call and the half ended at 1-0.

London was awarded a Free Kick just outside the 18-yard box early in the second. Camil Niewdana made no mistake with a high kick over the wall and into the back of the Blaze net to tie the match at 1.

Bluewater fought back. Dusseault headed a ball up to Zach Horvath. Horvath fought for space and took a hard shot at the goal. The shot beat the keeper but not the hand of a defender in the net and the Blaze were awarded a Penalty Kick.

Leblanc calmly stepped up and the Blaze was ahead 2-1.

Bluewater was invigorated by the score and started to control the match. Denys took a throw in to Ohuegbe. Ohuegbe found Sheeler who cross to O’Neill for a pretty play but the header was just wide.

A wide outlet to Ohugebe was crossed to Horvath. The winger gathered the ball for a good shot but a defender on the line was able to clear after the keeper was once again beat.

O’Neill applied pressure and won the ball deep in London territory. A quick throw in found Ohuegbe who shot quickly and beat the goalie for a 3-1 Blaze advantage.

Dylan Wardell looked to keep the pressure up and carried the ball into the Sabre half. A pass down the line to Cservik was crossed to O’Neill but his shot was just over the bar.

Justus Kerkoff-Fox tried to add to the lead but his shot from the wing was foiled by the London goalie.

Denys looked to Ohuegbe for the hat-trick but the shot rang off the post and past a hard charging Ryan Tanner.

With the ref looking at his watch London pushed down field and were rewarded with a goal just as the whistle blew. The Blaze had earned their 3rd win of the season.
