Bluewater Blaze U-13 vs.
Kitchener “B” May 24/09
The U-13 Blaze hosted the
Kitchener B squad, looking to go undefeated in 2 games
to start the season. Early action saw Caleb Mooney pass
the ball wide to Richael O’Neill. O’Neill carried down
the wing and took a shot that was deflected away by the
Kitchener keeper and the rebound was cleared out of
harms way.
Matt Sheeler decided to
switch the field with a pass to Mitch Leblanc. Leblanc
ran on the ball and chipped it to O’Neill. The Kitchener
defenders allowed the ball to bounce, and O’Neill was
quick to head the ball into the goal for an early 1-0
Blaze lead.
Kitchener finally penetrated
the Bluewater zone and was rewarded with a corner kick.
They made no mistake when the ball squirted out to a
running midfielder who buried a shot behind Josh Graham
of the Blaze. 1-1.
Bluewater was rewarded once
again on a nice passing play. Sheeler touched back to
Drew McFeggan who crossed the ball to Dilly Ohuegbe.
Ohuegbe attacked the net and scored making the contest
2-1 in Bluewater’s favour.
Bluewater continued to
control the game with passing and Ohuegbe spotted Brent
Arthur on the outside. A hard strike found the chest of
the keeper and the score remained 2-1 at the half.
Ryan Tanner of the Blaze
looked to set the tone in the second half. A pass wide
to Ohuegbe was subsequently crossed to Dylan Wardell.
Wardell spotted a charging Matt Cservik but the shot
sailed high over the Kitchener net.

A direct kick for the Blaze
looked dangerous when Leblanc’s’ kick was tipped in
front of the Kitchener goal but the goalie was able to
adjust and make the save.
Justus Kerkof-Fox pushed the
ball out to Ohuegbe on the wing but the attempted cross
went near post and over the net denying the Blaze some
breathing room.
Marcus Dusseault in the
midfield found the foot of Tanner but Tanners shot could
not find the mark either.
Kitchener countered and
their striker was allowed to march in on Graham. The
Blaze goalie stood perplexed as the shot sailed into the
goal and Kitchener had tied the match.
The Blaze regrouped and were
almost rewarded. Kerkof-Fox retrieved a throw in, turned
and shot but could not beat the goalie.
Leblanc then found Ohuegbe
whose shot found the back of the net, but a glance
around saw the arm of the official raised in an offside
call. The game remained tied.
A goal kick by Graham found
Garth Denys on the wing. A good ball to open space
allowed Ohuegbe to use his speed. A cross into the
penalty area found O’Neill who made no mistake and
Bluewater had regained the lead at 3-2.

The go ahead goal gave the
Blaze the momentum. A short corner allowed O’Neill to
cross to Brandon Foster in the middle and just like that
Bluewater was up two. 4-2.
Another Bluewater corner and
O’Neill lobbed the ball into the box but Denys header
just missed over the net. O’Neill again was
allowed to cross the ball, this time the keeper looked
to catch the ball but was unable to control it. A smart
thinking Sheeler was there to deposit the goal and the
Blaze was up 5-2 in the span of 5 minutes.
The Blaze smelled blood.
O’Neill was allowed to break in alone on goal but the
keeper got a hand on the shot and the Blaze were
rewarded a corner. Another short corner saw O’Neill hit
Sheeler who turned and scored. 6-2.
Leblanc tried to pad the
lead with a direct free kick but again the ball sailed
high.

Sheeler returned O’Neill’s
previous favour with a nice pass. O’Neill turned and
buried the chance for a 7-2 lead.
Another Blaze corner found
Cservik in front. Matt turned but was denied by the
cross bar. The ball deflected back to Sheeler who made
it a hat trick and an 8-2 game.
Bluewater was close to
double digits when Kerkof-Fox free kick was headed on by
a defender and off the cross bar.
The final tally was 8-2 and
Bluewater starts the season 2-0 tied for first place.
