Semi-Finals
In Subway Cup Semi-Final
action , Sarnia Produce met
SarCor Rebar Tuesday night
at Norm Perry Park. SarCor
took the early lead in the
5th min of play when Joe
DaSilva pounced on a loose
ball in the goal area of the
Produce net. He wasn't
finished yet ,as in the 10th
min. of action SarCor was
rewarded a free kick in the
20 yrd area with Joe DaSilva
again scoring on a chip
shot in the top right corner
of the net. That goal
seemed to encourage the
Produce team as they began
pressing immediately. In
the 38th min of play ,
striker Lenny DeCarolis
headed in a corner kick to
put the Azzurri within one.
SarCor led at the half 2 -
1.
Sarnia Produce came strong
in the second half looking
to equalize. In the mid
stages of the half a SarCor
defender was given a hand
ball in the box. Alex
Tsaprailis took the penalty
kick and tied up the score
on a hard drive to the left
side of the SarCor goal. No
other scoring was done as
the game went to penalty
kicks. Scoring for the
Azzurri in penalty kicks
were : Lenny DeCarolis, Theo
Tsaprailis and Alex
Tsaprailis. Unfortunately
it wasn't enough as SarCor
found the net 4 times to win
the match. They advance to
the finals against Tomlinson
Enterprises (who defeated
ESSO in the other semi-final
match-up).
Sarnia Produce vs. Tomlinson
Enterprises
Thursday August 20th
League
Action.
The Azzurri were back on
the pitch Thursday night
facing Tomlinson Enterprises
in League play. Sarnia
Produce came out strong and
took the early lead on a
beautiful one timer from
Alex Tsaprailis. A few
minutes later it was again
Alex Tsaprailis scoring for
Produce with a nice left
footed strike which found
the Tomlinson net.
Continuing to press, the
Azzurri were rewarded with
another goal as mid-fielder
Stephan Sirois stepped
around a Tomlinson defender
and blasted a shot on the
fly which caught the post
and went in. Produce led at
the half 3 - 0.
The second half was much
different then the first as
Tomlinson dictated most of
the play. With relentless
pressure, Tomlinson scored
two goals to make it close
however it wasn't enough as
Produce keeper Olindo DeSena
held firm for the win.
