Sarnia
Produce vs. Esso
League Play Monday Night
August 24th.
Sarnia Produce met rivals Esso
under the lights at Norm
Perry Park in League play.
It was a huge game for the
Azzurri as a win would
guarantee them the League
championship. Esso, who sat
in second place, with a win
would still give them a
chance at the title. Both
teams came out fast and
furious looking to score
however most play was
concentrated in the
mid-field. The defense at
both ends played very
strongly limiting any
chances by opposing teams.
There was no scoring at the
half.
In the opening of the second
half Esso began to pressure
as a tie would not suffice.
Moving up their mid-fielders
and attacking with defenders
Esso created many
opportunities. This plan of
attack however left defenses
susceptible to counter
attacks as was the case. In
the 70th min. of
play midfielder Lenny
DeCarolis created a
turn-over and sent the
perfect through ball to
striker Livio DiMurro who
finished with a well placed
shot in the left corner of
the Esso goal. Produce
defense was stellar in the
final stages of the game
with keeper Olindo Desena
Jr. preserving the shutout
sending the Azzurri to their
second consecutive League
Championship. After having
won only 4 games total in
their first two inaugural
seasons, Sarnia Produce has
completed a huge
transformation losing only
twice in league play for the
last two years, winning the
championship both times!
