Sarnia Produce vs. Paddy
Flaherty's
August 27th - League Play
It was the final game of
League action on Thursday
night as Sarnia Produce met
Paddy Flaherty's at Norm
Perry Park. Having already
clinched the title, Sarnia
Produce was unusually short
of players as some chose to
rest. They managed to field
a team with only one
substitute at the start of
play. In the opening
minutes of action Sarnia
Produce mid-fielder Stephan
Sirois was given a red card
forcing the Azzurri to play
with ten men. Although short
in number Produce kept pace
looking to take the lead.
In the 30th min of play,
sweeper Mario DiDonato
pinched in and jumped on a
loose ball firing it in on
goal from 25 yrds out.
Sarnia Produce led at the
half 1 - 0.
Paddy's came out strong in
the second searching for the
equalizer. Continuous
pressure forced Produce to
relegate to defence.
Although Paddy's
dominated
possession, their scoring
chances remained limited.
With outstanding goaltending
by Olindo DeSena Jr. Produce
looked to close out the
game. In the 87th min
however, on a Paddy
Flaherty's throw-in ,
mid-fielder Dean Troiani was
called for hand-ball in the
penalty area. D.P Hicks
stepped up to take the kick
blasting it into the centre
of the Produce goal. The
game finished a 1 - 1 draw
closing out another exiting
season for the Azzurri.
Next action for Sarnia
Produce will be September
17th in the play-offs as
they receive the bye for the
first round.
